Finally have an update!! My PATC Stage 3 kit arrived today, so now I will start to fight my way through the rebuild. My new big plan is leaning towards getting a custom billet reverse pattern valvebody that will eliminate having overdrive on an electronic switch. It will have all 4 gears on the physical stick shifter, so it will make it more enjoyable to drive. The torque convertor lockup will still be on a switch, but all in all that won’t be so bad. So the gear selection should be P-R/N/Transbrake-1-2-3-4. It will have a trans brake, but I think there are a lot more internal upgrades that need done to handle a launch, so I probably won’t be doing using it.

And I’ve been working on the shifter mounting, the console is back in the truck, the cup holder and shifter trim is finished and painted, the last part is finishing the large trim bezel on the console, I have to fab up a corner on the passenger side and get it painted. That will be sometime later

I got my Cope Racing Transmissions billet valvebody in today! I also picked up their deep trans pan, it looks sweet. Props to them for building the valve body and shipping it to me in about 4 days turn around. I gotta pick up a new convertor and now the trans is ready to be assembled then get installed. I can not wait to have a trans I’m confident can take a beating

Slowly but surely more is getting done. The trans is almost complete! Just waiting on a few more answers and parts to arrive. Hopefully in the next week or two I can get this in the truck! d54115974e341e926b8259e8bfad8db6.jpg

More work done, the trans is bolted into the truck! It’s been basically straight forward. I removed the flywheel and replaced it with an adapter plate from PATC for a Hemi to 46re swap. The 46re torque convertor has the flywheel teeth built into the back of it so the engine doesn’t actually have the flywheel attached to it. Next I had a bracket that needed cut off that was a brace from the transfer case to the trans. It wouldn’t attach to the new trans so I cut it out. The block needed a little trimming near the starter to clear the new one, I had to use the starter from a 96-01 truck. And finally I needed to use the trans bracket from the 96-01 trucks, and it bolted right to my transmission cross member. That was unexpected, I originally thought I would have to make a custom mounting bracket. So next time I work on it I need to remove the column shifter, I’ve already got the new console shifter cable run down to the trans. Then I need to get the wiring done for the neutral safety switch and the torque convertor lockup done. Then mount the transfer case, and get the trans cooler lines ran. The original lines ran to the passenger side, the new ones go to the drivers side. I’m planning on using -6 AN braided lines for that. Still a lot to do but almost there!! 2e953282983bb8cc8d937ed2ec883964.jpg

And I also picked up an awesome deal on a set of eagle heads. This will be the next project after the trans. Can’t wait! 909881fd6dc8b0d7722e96ec98f51190.jpg

Been awhile since I updated here. The transmission is 99% complete! I finally got all the loose ends wrapped up and got it running. When I first got it on the road I was fighting a limp mode problem, it would run fine down the road until I came to a stop and the truck would just stall out. Reset the battery, run it down the road and it would stall again. After a bunch of troubleshooting my tuner fixed a few things on the TCM side, I uploaded a clean fresh tune and boom, problem solved! The shifts are very firm and quick, and it’s a lot of fun driving with a manual. I’ll upload a short video sometime of it driving around. But I’m down to one last issue, my convertor isn’t unlocking, I’m thinking the solenoid is froze up. So I got alittle trouble shooting left. All in all it was a pretty straight forward swap, it was nice that the mounting bracket lined right up with the cross brace. I also got my drive shaft coated and ran some new feed wire to my starter, alternator, main fuse box and my audio system. Next up I’m gonna pick up a set of 4.56’s for the rear end and get those changed out, then on to preparing for the eagle heads and intake.

Here are the new AN lines for the trans cooler, and the few little wire harnesses I made up for the safety switch and convertor lockup

Another long overdue update.

My Cope Racing Valvebody has an issue with the torque convertor kicking up like normal, but not unlocking causing the truck to stall. I contacted him about it, and he put a few weeks of testing in and found a solution. I sent the valvebody back for him to repair it and I got it back running last night. Now it works perfectly! I really like the new valvebody, I’ll give a full write up and review in a few weeks after I make sure it’s fully fixed.

I did a 2” drop in the back with a shackle and removing the overload spring. Painted under the bed frame and removed some unnecessary metal for alittle bit of weight savings. Also put on new bilstein 5100 shocks, new tie rod ends, lower ball joints, and new cv axles. I dropped the front diff and put in 4.56 gears. In the next few weeks I’ll be putting in 4.56 in the back with an Eaton TruTrac unit. After all that’s complete, I’ll work on changing my exhaust to Carven mufflers with an x pipe, I have a few exhaust leaks around the header collectors that’s really annoying me. Still a lot to come with the truck in the next 6 months, this thing is really gonna rip when it’s all completed!

Starting the rear 4.56 gears and trutrac today. Couldn’t get it done without Baxter, my experienced certified gear installer! f30da0f4ef4e7f34d228b03e7d0b6425.jpg
