My lie o meter has been fairly accurate when I have checked it manually. But 90% of the time I go by my fuel gauge. It says E I fill up and drive till it says E again.

Yea, i tell myself everytime i get in the truck, i won't pay attention to it this time, well i do, every single trip. I wish i could turn it off like for a month at a time or something. So i couldn't cheat and look at it.

It’s been easy for a while now. I’ve had tires set below threshold and now have new tires. So my EVIC has pretty much been flashing for the last few months I just click back and haven’t been going into the menu anymore cause I’ve gave up.

I believe the meter in the dash is giving you a rolling MPG and not counting all the time you spend stopped.

Possibly... My 2017 tells me how much time it spent driving, and how much it spent idle.

I know my meter likes my wife better than it does me. I've been between 16.3 and 16.5 for the last two weeks, let her drive it to work one day and when I got back in it was at 16.8!

My 2013 & now my 2017 both had pretty accurate mpg readouts. Never had a hand calculation vs meter difference greater than a mile. I believe the most was a .7 difference.

I’m usually easy on the throttle & have a 50 mile round trip for work. About half the trip is 60-65 mph the other 45-50. I average in the 19mpg range per tank. 5.7L 3.21 gears 4x4 Crew Cab.

24mpg consistently over several tanks of fuel seems obtainable in a properly equipped & driven single cab, maybe quad cab, but getting that in crew seems impossible.

The absolute very best I've ever seen was just under 20mpg on a tank that was entirely highway miles on a more or less stock truck with 3.92s, crew cab, and 4x4. It doesn't seem out of realm of possibility if it's 4x2 reg cab 3.21, but you'd have to be trying really hard, driving like Granny, and be on a flat stretch.

I have no problem with the lie-o-meter. It does a good job as far as I'm concerned. It's good for relative mpg so if you want to save gas you can see what type of driving gives you that. If you think doing it by hand is 100% accurate, you're kidding yourself. To be accurate you would have to fill up at the same exact pump at the same exact time of day since gasoline "expands" with heat like anything else. You should also fill until it clicks off. Then wait 1 minute, then restart the pump & stop it at the next click off. Also you would have to make sure every fill up is pumped at the same speed as far as how far the nozzle level is pressed.

On a rent trip from Nj to Folrida & back i recorded ever fillup ( not worrying about the above instructions since I kust wanted close numbers) and in the end my total hand calc vs lieometer was within .5 mpg which is really very good as far as I'm concerned.

I`ve never heard of anything like that in my 60+yrs... I think your over thinkin it at that point.

I fill my truck once a week, every monday night when i leave work... same station, same time, same gas, same clicks off when full. Knockin down 22mpg avg.

^^^^^ Putting fuel in full blast will shut off the nozzel prematurely, slowing down toward the end leaves more gas in the tank when it shuts off. Hes right. I do this all the time in my work truck, if i dont gas will shoot out everywhere. Analyzing data requires exact duplication of the different tests, if not you are wasting your time. Am i living up to my user name again.

Not overthinking at all. In my 60+ years I remember some cars having to run it as slow as possible or it would just keep kicking off. And yes they were empty or close to it. As Ocdtech pointed out if you're going to try and get accurate measurements you need to have controlled measurements. That's what I do for a living and to claim dependable results all conditions have to be equal or you dead on nuts hand calculation will be less accurate than the lie o meter.

Your splitting hairs at that point, and i dont really think anybody in here (or anywhere at this point) is trying to get down to thousandths of a MPG accuracy. So.....

Someone needs a mic drop here.

Anyways, I just go by the dash and it’s almost a game to me now. I try and think what drivin style and conditions are out and my consumption. Compare it etc... If anything seems out of the ordinary I’ll know a little sooner. Maybe maintenance is needed etc...

If you take a number thats fairly realistic say, 400 miles on a tank, divide by what 22 gallons you get 18.18. Take the same number 400 divide by 22.5 gallons you get, 17.77. Its extremely easy to get another half a gallon in the tank after cut off. Thats a pretty good difference im mpg, IHO. Just different kinds of people out there, some precise some aren't.

Yep, understood... i get it...
but considering what i`m driving, i`m not squabbling over a couple tenths of my mpg on my fill-up`s.
I would say that would be just a bit OCD if someone really complained about that little bit of difference.
Sure, it all adds up at the end of the year, but come on man, we`re driving great big objects with 400hp and bucking the wind.

Even if these trucks got 40mpg, somebody is still gonna ***** if they only get 39.9mpg. Funny how one tenth of a mpg can get peoples pantys all wadded up.

I use the EVIC as a reference point. It may be off, but I think it's consistently off. I hand calc when I feel like it.

On a previous trip to FL, at 70mph, I managed 20.5 mpg with the CA off and windows up. On the way back, I got 21.5 with AC on. On another trip to FL a little later, I managed 22.5 with AC on, and windows up, but I was doing 65 the whole time.

As for "going with the flow" being safer/better - that's ridiculous. So you're saying that regardless of my vehicle and driving skill, cargo and passengers that I need to just do 80+ because everyone else is?

I think a more important aspect would be at what speed are you all getting these figures? In town I struggle to stay above 14mpg average (2017 crew 4x4 with 5.7). I did some experimenting in town and when I baby the throttle up to the speed limit I get under 14. If I am fairly aggressive to the speed limit and then pop cruise control on when I can, I get near 15 in town. I can get 20-21 on the highway at 72-75 but no better unless I slow down of course. I am sure someone is averaging 24 on the highway, at 60mph... Not realistic IMO.

Mine get around 20mpg 2017 crew cab all stock. The only problem is that when I come to a stop I have a clucking noise. The dealer says its normal. He said that it's the rear end racking back a forth. Does any body have the same problem
