Thanks for the info jbrown. One benefit of the step sticking out would be the car dings haha. Hate car dings...

Thanks for the pics Neil. Those don’t stick out either. I like the look of ovals and Westin as four inch ovals so I imagine would be similar to yours in terms of how far they stick out.

Has anyone had experience with these raptors? They have the bent design and support more weight as well. I don’t weight much but the in-laws do.

I went with the Aries AdvantEdge boards. They are aluminum so no rust, they come in black, silver or mixed black and silver. They sit high, they are 5 inches wide so they stick out a bit, but there is adjustability because the bolts under the boards are mounted in a track so you can move them forward/backward or in/out.

I went with the Tyger brand from Amazon

https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B01AH5JHI8/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

as a low cost option - see pics in my linked build thread below as well. AMPs would be nice if money no object, but I also read a bunch of complaints about them not lasting very long and issues after about a year or so.

The OEM steps are actually pretty nice looking imo as well, but at close to 3x the cost of the Tyger.

Thanks for the continued responses. The Weston’s look good. Regarding their mounts, is each mount two lateral pieces with a plastic cover over them? Most mounts are a single metal piece with no cover. The Weston cover makes it look a little more finished and clean.

Sorry, newbie question. How do you see someone’s build thread? I don’t see that under the persons sig or profile page.

I had these and after running over a tread that a semi left behind, the step bent back and dented the rocker panel. Had to remove it at a rest stop as it was kind of loose and didn't want to have it fall off while driving making it even worse. I replaced them with the N-Fab (N-Fab D0968RC Gloss Black Nerf Step; Wheel 2 Wheel Dodge Ram 1500 Regular Cab 6.4' Bed 09-18) that tuck right up but have the step. Love them so far.

I also have the Westin 4" on a Quad Cab and love them. There are three mounts per side, and each mount does have one metal piece that comes out to support the step bar, then the optional (but included) plastic cover bolts over the metal support piece. They also have sealed ends and the individual step pads that you said that you prefer - and tuck up a lot tighter to the truck than some other ones. They took me a couple hours to install, taking my time. I got them for about $230 shipped from rockauto.com, without any coupon or discount.

At that price, I wouldn't care if they needed to be replaced every few years - not that I think they will.

If you ever have to reach into the forward portion of you bed, you might want to think about a set of full length boards.... makes it easy to step up and reach into the bed....

I have the Amps also on a 17 Big Horn. A little pricey but absolutely worth it.

I'll agree with this, the one thing I don't like about my Tyger steps is that they stop at the cab. There was a guy selling Mopar OEM Quad steps in the Swap Shop a week for a good price after I installed mine too :(.

The benefit is real, I was parked at Bono's Sunday, still sitting in the truck and guy pulled into spot next to mine and opened his door right into my passenger step lol.

Good-looking rig...I'm not into running boards (my Reb has air suspension so I just drop it when needed), but I can see the benefits. Those Aries versions are sweet!

You might want to look at https://www.ramforum.com/threads/be-really-careful-in-the-fog.126412/page-4

It looks like Maligator had a set of those Westin HDX drop steps. I thought I wanted those but I couldn't find a good picture of a Ram with them installed and wasn't sure how far down the steps would drop. I think they look pretty badass on his rig, and given the state of the truck and the condition of the steps I would guess they are pretty sturdy as well. Looking at them here, I wish I had gone that route.

I have the Ionic 5" ovals in SS. They do extend out a bit past the tires and hang down about 5" maybe more or less this by my eyeballin it. Quality is top notch and was easy to install once you figure out the instructions. Seem very sturdy for my 325 lb wt. no flex at all.
I also have the Ionic...I agree with easy install and how they look, fit &ease of install...what I DISagree with is the quality...maybe this stainless in China is good but here it sucks! One year blistering and bubbling! I didn't buy these for long term just price so if that's what you're after these will work.

Those are great looking boards! I have a set on Luverne’s that have an expanded metal surface which is great for grip especially in winter. Aluminum so they won’t rust but the mount does flex a bit (I’m 250 lb).

I like them. There's absolutely no flex when you step on them and they were easy to install. If I had it to do over again I would look at the iron cross because I like the way they look. I couldn't find a picture of them on a tea when I was buying, but I saw them on a truck here and they look pretty bad ass. I only have one complaint, but I'll save it for the pics.

Jbrown. I am also looking at ionic, but the stainless instead of the black. I'm a little concerned about how they attach. They give me the impression that they mount like factory, but not sure how factory mounts them. Are you still liking them? Do they seem to be holdup after a few months now?

Westin HDX, I can get a pic-wait just saw a pic in the GEN 5 exterior threads.

I swapped to them for two reasons-weight and the "faceted" look matches my GoRhino rear bumper perfectly.
