Hi guys,

that may be a bit of a silly question (but I do have my 2019 only for a week now and the manual doesn't answer it) but how do I lock the tailgate? It doesn't lock when I lock the truck using the handle buttons or the key fob like the manual suggests (is that an extra option?) and the tailgate handle does not have a lock for the manual emergency key like my 2010 had, so....how do I lock it?

When opening the tailgate is your key in your pocket?

Yes, it is. I can try to open it without the key in range, but I don't think it is locked.
I mean, the rear doors for instance don't open either when the truck is locked, key or no key.

U do not have to have key in pocket to open tailgate provided that U have unlocked the truck (all 4 doors). When U lock all of the doors, the tailgate is supposed to lock. If not, sounds like a software/mechanical issue and trip to dealer, just IMHO...

The only bump to my answer would be if he had the passive door unlock/lock proximity setup on the high trim where the vehicle unlocks when fob is present, now that would be possible a different issue and I can not address, as only have a Bighorn.

It's a Laramie, but I don't think it has the proximity unlock. Anyway, when I have the the truck locked (checked by verifying the knobs are down and the rear doors don't open) the tailgate stays unlocked.
As that is obviously not the intended function I guess I'll have to see the dealer about it.

The tailgate operates like the front doors. It unlocks when you touch the handle Lock the truck and leave the fob in the house The tailgate will be locked. The rear doors don't have the passive entry in the handles which is why they won't open even with the fob present.

That was exactly it, thanks for the explanation.

Ain't technology grand?

I ran the opposite "experiment" with my wife. I locked the truck and stood a ways off and tried to have her open the tailgate. No dice - it stayed locked (as I hoped it would) until I came closed enough with the key fob and then it opened right up (or should I say, dropped right down).
