Well the one that we originally drove and bought you had to slam the tailgate several times to get the tailgate open message in the EVIC to clear and it had “service throttle control system” message after we jumped in it to leave after purchasing it. It also had weak AC. The throttle control issue was a serious enough problem where we didn’t drive it back home. They offered to fix it the next day and deliver it to hundred miles away to us. The next day while driving down they had the same problem again with the throttle control system and after that my buddy told him that he no longer wanted the truck so they offered another in its place. Those are just a couple of the problems that I experienced firsthand. As far as I know the truck that he got in its place has been good so far. There’s also another thread on here called fifth GEN problems or you can read about some of the other issues that people of had with the new model. I’m sure they will get all the bugs worked out it just takes time.
Pricewise I said hi 30s for a 2018 Laramie crew cab 4 x 4. I haven’t seen any 2018 F150 Lariat 4 x 4 crew cab in my area for less than high 40s after all rebates. I am sure there are better deals to be had elsewhere just not here.

I have a 19 Ram Laramie tailgate opens with push of a button and can close with one finger. No issues what so ever with air that will freeze your hind end off! 2300 miles so far. No Throttle issues at all either. The 2018 Laramie's I priced when I bought and ordered the 19. No 2018 Laramie crew cabs could be had for hi 30's . They started in mid 50,s before rebates. After rebates down in the 40,s. maybe your thinking the Big Horns 18,s after rebates can be had for upper 30,s.

I did the same about 18 mo ago. Made a list of what I wanted, found the exact truck (Ram) on lot a day's drive away, dealer's offer 29% off MSRP. Found something comparable at the local Ford dealership, asked for same deal and was laughed at. A Ram sits in my driveway.
FYI - local Ram dealers would not negotiate either and treated me like this was my first deal. I'm 56 and it was the 10th new car purchase I've made.

The Rams could always be had for less than the Fords by quite a bit same trims etc.. The resale on the Ford is no higher than the Rams 4 to 6 years later either being same mileage and condition,so you can't even get it back at trade time on the Fords! Like you I have had Fords in 90's went with Rams in in early 2000 and on number 5 all being great trucks two was traded off never being in shop not even recalls! I'm sure some can buy a Ram with issues just like the Chevy and Ford, but for myself I have great use of the Rams and saved much money doing it! Good luck to you and happy Ramming!

Ram interiors are better than Fords & Gm even as per most reviews on youtube.
I could not get what I got on my Ram with Chevy or Ford not to mention saved some money great Ride and love the new 19 even more on the inside cab! I wanted the Air suspension had on my 2014 and now on the 19....not offered from ford or Chevy and really a great feature! I like the power steps on 19 too!

Always thought ford's ride like a "horse and buggy" the newer Rams are a better truck in my opinion way more comfortable, another plus factor the Rams are less expensive.

I am on the fence between the two, Ram 1500 Laramie or F-150 Lariat. Are there any issues with the Ram 1500 I should consider before I make my final decision?
All of my research so far has been both are great trucks and it seems to boil down to finding the best deal???

Any thoughts from those of you who have recently gone through the same thing.

Thanks

I have had three Rams so I consider myself a Ram guy. I have since bought a F150 with a ecoboost to pull a RV. I’m going to give you my honest opinion. 1. As far as gas mileage as long as you stay out of it the F150 will be a better choice. 2. The ride is smoother in the Ram but not by much. 3. Paint quality is way better on the ford hands down. 4. You can deff tell Ford has been building trucks longer than Ram. Fit and finish on the Body is better on the Ford.5. Interior fit and finish is a tie fired Might have a very slight edge. 6. Back seat in the Ford is more comfortable and floor space is way better. 7. Front seat comfort is the same, but I love the hand shifter rather than the dial shifter. 8. performance wise the ecoboost will walk away from the Ram, sorry guys but it’s the truth. People will argue that but the truth is the ecoboost will outrun the Hemi. Does that matter? To me no V8 sound is intoxicating, and that’s a close race. If your going to tow a RV then the choice is simple, F150. If your just need a truck then the Ram will be a better fit and more fun. Hope this helps

That's a good point on the drastic drop and plateau on prices. Once depreciation levels off you have to decide on spending money each year on parts or money on a newer truck.

Your correct its your opinion not actually how it is. I walked all over a ecoboost with a 2014 ram!

Just curious, was that a 2.7 eco or the 3.5? Were they both CC, EC, or standard cab trucks??

Ouch!!!
I like the outside looks of the Ram a bit better. The Ford dealership has a great reputation. I don't know much about the Ram dealer, nothing bad or good.
I've owned 3 ram trucks and the worst thing is the dealership, absolutely horrible and criminal at times.

I realize you were comparing to 2018 - Ram 4th gen but things have changed with the 2019 Ram 5th gen.

1. Rear comfort & floor space. Ram wins hands down.

2. Interior - Ram wins hands down.

3. Ride - Ram wins hands down. Especially vs. Air ride.

4. Drag race - Ford still wins but the Ram 4th and 5th gens are no slouches, especially roll on power. Bottom line is 95% of us don't drag race our spendy trucks.

5. Features/Design - Ram wins. Tailgate, dash, UConnect (very intuitive), screen glass, air ride, rear bins, reclining rear seats, console/storage, and more.

6. Not sure how the 5th gen LED headlights stack up vs. Ford but I do know they have improved dramatically over 4th gen Ram halogens. I had a 2014 Ram. Halogens were terrible.

7. I actually prefer the dial tranny and the extra room/cleaner look.

8. I am old enough that the V8 sound is appreciated.

9. Cab quietness/road noise. Ram hands down. Both are on the quiet side.

I had narrowed my choice to the 2018 F150 and 2019 Ram. Obviously went with Ram. The ride & interior were very important to me. I do a lot of long distance hwy driving.

The F -150 is a very nice 1/2 ton truck but the Ram 5th gen is the leader for now. Ford will have their chance when they build their next gen. Chevy blew their chance with their "new" 19.

The good thing is this competition is great for us consumers.

My biggest fear with the F150 is the ecoboost. It's an impressive engine BUT too much "tech". Dual turbo's spinning up to 200,000 rpm that have a load of monitoring & control to keep them from overheating ( cost around 1200 each plus labor to replace),direct injection @ 2000 psi, no doubt will need service & / or replacement on your dime. The overhead cams with timing chains tensioned by plastic slide tensioners. Just a lot to go wrong down the road.

Long term was a concern for me too but I am starting to see reports of 150-200k mile EBs stating very few problems especially 2013 and newer. I am sure they have worked any major issues.

True, I've seen the same but are those the exceptions or the rule? Are those driven by grandpa's that drive easy??? I am a grandpa but I don't drive like one, just ask my wife. I'll stick with N/A engines for now. Imo Ford can't touch the value of a Ram especially with a lifetime warranty.

Hope the OP wasn't expecting to hear he should go and buy the Ford in a "RAM" forum. there is no bias in forums and/or love for the platform, let alone using the name "Ford" among the Mopar crowd, hahaha.

OP, if you haven't taken your decision yet, drive both, pick what you like the most, whether is price, amenities, features, functionality, comfort, etc, etc, who cares what we have to say if you're the one driving it and paying for it ? I love my RAM at the moment, and i've only had it for a couple of months, i wouldn't even consider any truck in the Ford lineup saved for the Raptor, i can't afford the Raptor, so it's all RAM for me, know what you need first, match that with what you want/can afford :)

I dont know I dont drive a Ford...Its was a 150 Eco with big cab like mine and he was in my rear view from the red light until I let off it and I gave him the kick from the light! When one does it again with this 19 with E.T. they gonna get it again! lol. This 19 is stronger out of hole than the 14 was.

Nice post could not agree more !Don't forget the Power side steps! really nice too! Last but not least the Ford cost more for nothing gained!
