Plastidip entire grille or just inserts & crosshairs on 2012 Black Lone Star?

I love my Lone Star and it's chrome bumpers but I really wish I had the black grill instead of the chrome grill. Several months back I removed the grill emblem and inserts and gave them the plastidip treatment and love the look. I've since blacked out my tailgate emblems (Rams head and LSE badge) and now I want to do more. Has anyone else with a black 4th-gen tried the all-plastidip treatment on the front grille? I know that the matte black looks good on my badges and grille inserts but would it be too weird for the whole grille to be matte black against the black paint job of the truck? I've also thought about just taping off the crosshairs and painting them to match the inserts but I'd hate to do it all and waste a few cans of plastidip and end up hating it.

I prefer the crosshair route. Here is mine. Not your color, but you can get an idea of what it looks like.

Anyone know the best way to plasti the chrome slats in the Sport's grill (tape off or remove)? How are you guys doing it?

How did you plastidip just the inside part? Not the main crosshairs. Was it easy?

Just FYI. Plasti-dip doesn't work well with chrome grilles.

I've done mine twice so far this last time it just chips like crazy. Most of it is from rock chips I guess but some parts are peeling off. And yes I put like 4 coats on. lol

Before, after. I used like 6 coats of plasti dip and put the edge just inside of the chrome lip that begins to turn inward to radiator. IF you tape off plasti dip be sure to run a nice wet spray right before you peel the tap away at a 45. Best way to get a nice line without it peeling up. For me it was simple experimentation and if I liked it I will paint it with something that has a slight gloss to it. Not shiny but not as dull as plasti dip.

When everyone says "plastidip" are they referring to the spray cans of Plastidip such as the ones on the shelves next to the rattle can paint at Walmart?
And if so, is that how you did the black and red on your grill?

Yes.

Not sure if that's how he did the slats though.

Hey "Mr Powell"
I'm still wondering:
a) where did you get/ what kind of "Ram" insignia is that?
b) how did you attach it to the grill cross member?

Just did mine again last weekend.... did it black this time and clear coated over the top of everything hopefully to prevent it from peeling for awhile.
Flat back placti dip, 5 coats
Blasted gold peel coat, 5 coats, removed from grill
Crystal clear coat
