Ok so I've wanting to do something to change up the front grille for quite sometime. The only thing holding me back from aftermarket is the price tag. I just didn't see $1000 of value when I could use that money towards go fast parts.

I used one can of black plastidip and one can of glossifier. I wanted a smooth look on the finish so I applied heavy coats.

I had 2000 grit sandpaper just in case I wasn't happy with the finish

The emblems are the black version. They are not plastidip.

Total cost was like $25-30 for 2 cans of plastidip, drop cloth, nitrile gloves and misc clips.

I did remove the grille to paint.

Looks great, I did mine as well when I first bought my truck 2 years ago, couldn't stand having a blacked out truck with chrome grill inserts. Except I used protect dip 2.0. I actually find it more durable.

2 years later and its still standing up perfectly.

That looks great! I think I may need to do the same when I switch to black wheels.

Scotch bright and mineral spirits then primer.... didnt last too long tho. Didnt have enough paint to do a few good coats so it was streatched thin and winter took its toll on it. Should have sanded it and bought more paint lol

I tried paint matching the chrome and it looked awesome..... from a distance. Idk I guess I should've primed it bc the grill turned out a slightly different color. But I was ok with it until it start flaking in about a week. I sanded it with 220 and cleaned it good. Laid on a full 2 cans of paint coats. No luck.... so I decided to go a different route this time. The black is a flat black plasti dip, 5 coats. I used the same peel coat blasted gold for the inserts and emblems while they were fully removed from grill. This time I also used a crystal clear coat on top of everything (5 coats) to try to prevent unwanted peeling.
