Ram doesn't ride as nice as my old Chev, but I got tired of putting rear brakes and power window motors in.

So, you bought a 7 year old vehicle with almost a 100k miles on it with no idea of the maintenance and you're going to blame the brand? Seems logical to me. Also, why share your thoughts here? I don't suspect you're going to get much sympathy. You might get some good laughs over on a Chevy forum.

Other than that, I don't care what anyone drives. To each there own. I'm certainly not brand loyal. I'll go with whatever model I like, meets my needs and gives me the best deal. For now, it's RAM. Depending on how the model looks , it may be a Ford in the future.

1 because I can, 2 I wasn’t looking for any sympathy, just simply sharing this persistence/common problem with the truck. I’m well aware it’s not just with the ram trucks. Buy anyway, Thanks for your useless 2 cents

Fwiw, I'm sure it was cleared up earlier, but 2011 wasn't the first year of a new model. In 2012, the name changed from Dodge Ram to simply Ram. Anywho, I've owned a '95 Dakota, and then upgraded to Rams: 2002, 2007, 2008, and since February 2012, my current 2011 Ram 1500. All I've done is basic maintenance and the occasional recall (like the critical component, the glove box light for my 2011 lol). I think I had to do the wheel bearings in the 2002. So one could say I've gotten lucky 5 times with Dodge. I prefer to think they're generally solid, long lasting runners with proper maintenance. (Although the rusting around the wheel wells did flare up on my '11. But I haven't seen many 8 year old Chevys or Ford's without rust somewhere. )

OP stated, "Dodge ad a chance to grab a new coustomer from Chevy, but failed. " Grab a new customer? Did you spend any money with FCA? No, you didn't. The only person who had a "chance to grab a new customer" was the guy who sold you his well-used 92K mile truck, and your local auto parts store, where you will be spending money to keep a high-mileage vehicle on the road. I am always amused when someone buys a high-mileage used vehicle of any kind, then blames any failures on the brand without consideration for maintenance issues, normal wear/tear, etc.

When does your mechanic expect to get the drill jig? I'm curious to see if it works, I'm sure you are too.

2014 Ram R/T Original Owner with 81,000 miles - I have a love and hate relationship with it. I have a thing for single cab short bed trucks been trough a few; 1988 GMC OBS, 1990 454SS, 2009 Silverado, 1971 GMC C10 (Still own). As you may now single cab trucks tend to be aimed at the workforce and are usually poorly equipped their have been a few exceptions. So when the Ram R/T became available I was stoked that it was loaded with all the creature comforts and was sporty looking. But its been my most troublesome vehicle thus far and aside from pick up trucks I have leased a few luxury sedans with no issues. I love the way it looks and what is stands for I cant bring myself to part with it.

Problems, no specific order;

1. Leaking 3rd brake light - Dealer Fixed
2. Leaking 3rd brake light (2nd time) and stained headliner - Dealer fixed
3. Leaking power steering - Dealer Fixed
4. Overhead light console failed - Dealer Fixed
5. Steering wheel Controls stopped working - Dealer fixed new clock spring
6. Dead battery 18,000 miles - Dealer replaced
7. Remote start stopped working - Dealer fixed
8. Cruise control stopped working - Dealer fixed
9. Steering wheel buttons stopped working again - Dealer fixed 2nd clock spring
10. Cruise control buttons stopped working - Dealer fixed 3rd Clock Spring
11. Ceased lifter - Dealer replaced cam

Current Issues i have note fixed yet.
1. Driver door panel grab bar broken
2. Steering wheel button work intermidietly - Suspect clock spring again
3. Driver heated seat and steering wheel wont stay on they just click on and off.

Just call me Scott...But since when is 92K considered low mileage? I guess this is a matter of perspective, but to me, if you get more than 100K on a gas engine, anything more is a bonus you have no right to expect. Having access to large amounts of failure data on gasoline engine on passenger cars and light trucks, it's abundantly clear to me that the frequency and severity of repairs greatly increases after the 100K mark. That indicates, to me, that it's at it's end of normal service life. That doesn't mean you have exceptions...I'm sure many people can list many exceptions....but the laws of large numbers don't lie. Many variables here, such as maintenance, driving habits, environment, etc.... Example: Avg life of male in USA is 78 years. I know older, and have been to funerals of younger...But the data doesn't lie.

My buddy said, we shouldn’t have to remove the head. Will see

As long as he or whoever drilling it out takes their time with it, it wont have to come off. Depends on the amount of room you have to work with and how much patience you have with it. Its when you go off center that you start to have problems.

Hope everything works out for you. I had this problem on my previous truck, a 2006 F150 with the 5.4L. Not a fun problem to have.

92000 miles is nothing!! Where have you been hiding for the past 30 years? Better get out a little more out there, most vehicles small and big are going over 200,000 and 300,000 with ease, everyday! I have one right now with 259,000 that runs like a champ.Nothing more than just basic maintenance, hell the coils and exhaust are still original!

Hard to weld a nut without enough exposed stud

Center punch that ***** (Don’t get off center or your screwed) And spend the money on the best left handed drill bits or a bolt extractor kit - Don’t go cheap like running down to your local Harbor Freight

Have had good luck with Irwin

Heat Heat Heat

I own a 2011 - Original owner

Third brake light seal I fixed myself the first year

That’s it - No ********

Tempted to remove my exhaust manifolds and replace the studs before I have an issue - Have the manifolds planed or some type of header

Truck only has 36,000 miles on it - Damn thing is beyond mint because I take care of it like its my 71 Super Bee
