No you will never be able to update it. Believe it or not, it is actually now working as designed. Version 17.11.07 actually broke it

Pre 2016 trucks that had the cargo cam had the backup cam in the rear view mirror and the cargo cam on the radio. The cargo cam is pinned into pins 31,32,33 of the radio. On 2016+ trucks the backup cam and radio are both on the radio. The backup cam is pinned into pins 31,32,33 and the cargo cam into 24,25,26. When they release 17.11.07 they broke everyone’s cargo cam because the made the radio function like 2016+ models. 17.43 rolled back the functionality of the radio to make it work correctly.

Ok I'll stay on 17.11.07 I never thought I'd say this but it's a good thing I don't get OTA updates because of the canadian spec. Before this I hated the fact that it takes them 4-5 be months to release an update for download and manual install for my specific vin. This easily turned a negative into a positive for me

I updated mine due to other issues with UConnect such as not showing caller ID properly 90% of the time. Who knew they broke (well, technically fixed) other things with it.

I have a 17.11.07 firmware in my truck as well and my caller ID does not show up when people call either and it's very frustrating. I actually downloaded the new firmware and was going to install it in my truck until I read the posts a while ago saying that it will change the backup camera settings back to the way they're supposed to be. I've already ordered the harness from Deerguy and I'm getting ready to buy that the OEM third brake light camera so I guess I'm going to have to deal with the caller ID not working. The only thing that concerns me is once I get all this done I won't be able to update the firmware from this point on and I like to usually update my maps every two years which requires the latest firmwar so this definitely might become an issue later.

Got the harness now how do I get this thing installed? I can obviously figure out the camera end. What about the other connector and the 3 wires with the pins?

Alright figured it all out just having a rough time finding pin 24 25 26 on the stereo. I see where 10 20 30 40 is marked moving up the rows .
Do the pins numbers increase 20-29 for example the farther away you get from the reference stamp?

Did you get the message I sent you yesterday? If not here is the connector picture.

Not sure why I didn't get your message. You send it pm or to my email? As for programming I've changed LED CHSML to set in the bcm and CHSML camera to set or yes . Anything else needs to be changed?

Yes that is all you should need to activate.

I’ve posted the whole process of what needs to be done to make it work over at this thread. I’ve built several of these harnesses for people now, and use the i440 connector to get power, ground, and Lin. Depending on the trim of your truck you may just need to go to the green connector behind the headlight switch and not all the way to the radio connector.

I have a 2017 Ram 1500 sport crewcab with the 8.4, can you PM me a price for the cargo camera light wire harness?

All parts for this project should be here early next week. I didn't have any luck connecting with @DeereGuy about a harness so I'm going to be building my own. Took me a little while to track down the ground at the I440 connector that is mentioned in this thread, but thanks to @Mpgrimm2 posting and hosting links to his schematics from Tech Authority I figured it out. Almost time to bust out the soldering iron. Depending on how motivated I get I may install a switch in line that would allow for an additional front camera or a rear camera on the back of my travel trailer.

I will try and provide some decent pictures and documentation to make this easier for anyone that wants to do it themselves. The most time consuming part of this whole project is taking the truck apart to run the wiring. You can make the harness connections with butt splices if you don't want to solder them.

Made a little progress on the harness this morning. I’m still waiting for some parts, but parts list so far:
25’ 22/4 security wire from Home Depot
Ram tailgate camera harness PN 68189124AC
Heat shrink tubing and soldering iron 3043ae8c11a5537780991d8896b256b2.jpg

So I got the harness installed. I pulled the camera out of my tailgate and I can confirm that it's working.

Here are the parts list that I used:

Mopar Camera Harness 68189124AC

Connectors:
Yazaki 7116-4110-02 (Need two)

Metra 71-6523 (3 of the small wires)

Posi-Tap or T-Tap for 14 gauge wire (Need one for ground on I440)

22’ of 22/4 Security Wire Home Depot (First piece 3’ Second piece 18’ 7”)
Roll of Tessa tape to wrap the wires with to keep the rattles down

The attached pdf has the pinouts for connections.
I cut the connector off the camera harness and soldered 6 wires on.
Three from the short piece of security wire and three from the longer piece.
The information of which wire to where is in the attached pdf
I bought the Metra harness because I couldn't find the .64mm female connectors for the radio harness available to buy in small quantities.
I de-pinned 3 wires from the Metra harness and soldered them onto the end of the longer security wire.
The wires out of the Metra harness worked, but they didn't snap into the radio harness like they should.
The short wire got two of the Yazaki connectors crimped. I used a Posi-Tap connector to tap into the ground wire at the I440
connector.

The I440 connector is located under the top trim piece on the drivers side C-Pillar.
Here is a picture of the I440 harness that shows how I pinned mine.

My truck is a 2014 1500 Limited Crew Cab. Before I started this project I was able to add the Cargo Cam with AlfaOBD. My understanding is that this feature will go away if I upgrade the FW in my radio.

I have extra connectors and wires from the Metra harness if anyone wants to give this a try.

Here are some good posts to look at:

I found out the hard way that the camera used in the tailgate is not the same as the one used for the cargo location. I did track down the right part number so now I’m going to find one that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg.

Hello DeereGuy,

I have a question regarding the install, I have a 2016 with 8.4 screen. Currently I have a PAC BCI-CH41 which acts as my navigation bypass with extra inputs from camera via a RCA input. I have access to a mopar 68163937af third brake light with camera. Is there a way to make a harness for this to make it work?
