I always go with genuine parts. Especially on something like that, you don’t wanna Have to swap it out every 6 months to a year if you got aftermarket and it has a “lifetime” warranty.

I agree with this!!
For something with as critical job as a water pump, don’t skimp out, go OEM

Great advise on this repair. Agree with JST. The over the counter big box parts stores are notorious for selling crap that last 3-6 months and you get to do it all over again. All they want is the come back. We always buy something else.
Take a minute to price OEM from your dealer and ask them who the supplier is. I have found over the years that Gates is a quality supplier. A-1 Cardone is junk. In the last couple years I have been impressed with the quality of NAPA gold box parts. CarQuest has taken on better quality suppliers. On line, I use Partsgeek. For most parts they carry cheap, better to expensive. You choose what you want to pay based on the quality of the part. BTW, water pump replacement on our 5.7's is not horrible. But, watch the pump to block gasket when you install. Common for them to catch and fold up at the bottom.

Seems pretty tight in the h2o pump area. This is one pert I wouldn't buy based on price.

I dont disagree with the oem advice but i rolled the dice with a murray. Ive used there stuff before with no issue.

Oem is $220ish.
The repair is easy for me, alot of room.
I can get the g-05 coolant for about $12 gallon non premix if i have to do it again, about 2 gallons needed plus gallon of distilled water.
I typically dont go far with my truck.

I found the gasket is what failed on the oem, not the pump itself. The gasket was hard and brittle. I know im in the 4th gen forum but i have an 05 so that gasket is 13 years old. Im not throwing the oem pump away. I wonder if the seals and bearing can be replaced?

Another note, i found the gasket mating surface on the engine side had some deep porosity/corrosion. The worst was at the point of the leak.

Did you ever figure out who makes OEM?
