Dealer charging $395 for wheels locks...pretty entertaining...

I would not buy this truck, I call BS on this dealership. I would drive several hundred miles for a better deal if I had to..

I got a text from the dealer stating they'd cover $1,285 of the dealer installed items.

It's a little more tempting but realized the front seats aren't all black (have that tan coloration).

WOW 9.9% ???? they're out of the f**king mind. My score is like yours. 5% I'd tell them to shove it up there ass. When I bought my truck they started at 8% then down to 4.99. Ended up getting 0.9 elsewhere.

Ohh and id tell them to keep their wheel locks and nitrogen air, to just give me regular air.

Dealers can ask whatever they want. That's called free enterprise. We also have the freedom to buy what and where we want. That's pretty dang cool. I don't get why some people get all bent out of shape when they see a dealership pricing something that they don't agree with. It's not worth getting upset about. The dealership is trying to make as much profit as possible. That's kind of why they have a million dollars plus invested in property, buildings, furnishing, inventory. They'd like to be able to cover the overhead and have some left over. Just as you will try to get as much for your trade in as possible.

I have gotten that same form layout from other dealers when shopping. 99.9% of the time it is given before they even run your credit and they just put a suspected worse case scenario financing interest rate and is not meant to be a interest rate that will be on the final negotiated deal.

People that are freaking out over that form in the OP's post need to realize it is just rough off the cuff first presentation from the dealership for tire kicker and lookie-loo window shoppers. I can almost guarantee that almost all of that dealer "options" they have almost next to nothing invested in, can be negotiated off the final pricing.

Its borderline insulting to hand people information like that. Clearly the dealer is "reaching" and hoping they just get a "yeah whatever i just really want the truck".

Why should I have to negotiate 400.00 wheel locks off the truck? And if the dealer is greasy enough to put them on paper for 400.00, how long would I need to negotiate to get them priced correctly or totally removed? How many times will I hear "I need to feed my kids!".

Sorry, Im not up in arms about it, but it is a good example of what is wrong with car dealers in general. And if RAM held them to better standards, they could be leading sales instead of lagging.

I’m also not sure if that’s OP’s signature on the sheet, but you should never sign a paper if you have concerns with the information on it.

Also, the $400 wheel locks are what the dealer chose to price them at. The parts plus labor. As a former Chrysler tech, again, I agree it’s absurd to charge what seems like 3 hours of labor for a sub $100 part, but that was their decision.

As Jus said, you reserve the right to complain about any part of the deal at any time until you have the final papers signed and you’re in the truck.

This isn’t exclusive to the car business, either. Other dealerships for other brands will charge you $1,000.00 to apply AutoZone Turtle Wax products as “paint sealant”.

Insult? I guess but after close to 30 something years of vehicle buying, this has been the norm rather than the exception and nothing I see changing anytime soon. So my astonishment to such things is lacking. Unless you are a first time buyer or lacking mental skills, any buyer in this age of information should know those things are fluff and usually negotiable. Should not have to be that way but unless the state vehicle franchise laws are revoked and direct manufacture sales are allowed, such things will always be there.

Buyers just have to educated on both the front end and back end of a deal to see how dealers are making their money.

Ive purchased 6 or 7 new vehicles, so not quite as much experience, but I am OCD in regards to research before during and after the buying process. I agree with you anyone should be informed before they even walk in, its so easy to find the information nowadays.

Out of those 6 or 7, 2 of them were American brands (Dodge and RAM as it were), the others were Honda, Acura, Infiniti and Lexus.

The buying experience with the Dodge and RAM products were FAR different than the other brands. My point being that there is no reason it needs to be the norm. I didnt buy an F150, but my test drive and "negotiation" experience were the same as Dodge and RAM before it. The American brand dealers can stand to learn a lot from the likes of Honda, Lexus, etc. I go in knowing what I want to pay, the difference is that it required 3 days of back and forth with the RAM dealer, versus 2 emails to the Honda, Acura, Lexus or Infiniti dealer.

It should NOT be the norm, its just that the American brands seem stuck in their ways of dealing. I never saw the "9 square" sheet at any of the foreign brand dealerships, not even the one I walked out of because they were going to transport my "new" car up to 250 miles, but within the first 5 minutes of being at the RAM and Ford dealers, sure enough there it was.

And honestly an easier buying experience can help the dealer too....a few of the deals I made I didnt fight for that last 100.00 off simply because the dealers werent BS-ing me, they didnt draw out the process, etc.

I agree, the Japanese brands have their game down a lot better than what is consider the Big 3 domestic brands. They rebate way less and tend to sell closer to MSRP than the domestic brands. They have more flexibility with their non union plants and imports to make inventory supply backlog way less than the domestic makers who push way more built products on their dealerships and glut inventory that is not meeting current demand.

Look it’s really pretty simple. Drive the 300 miles up here to Sherman Texas visit Hoyte Dodge where they don’t play games like that.
Another thing is the tires come from the factory nitrogen filled.
Don’t play into their hand drive a little and save more than the $12.5K.
They’ve got a beautiful 19 Rebel up there. Gray and black damn it’s sharp

We walked into a European brand’s dealership with $30K cash for a down payment and they wouldn’t give us the time of day because we were young and dressed like kids. Each brand has its stigma. I prefer a $400 fee than some egotistical entitled sales mindset.

I bought my 2012 SRT from Hoyte. Great experience. Couldn’t do that again for my 2015 or 2019 because the drive was just so tough to do with no stops.

Actually I didnt want the wheel locks because of previous bad experiences with wheel locks. Plus if someone really wants a fake chrome 20" wheel and tire combo that weighs probably 80 lbs and is holding up one corner of a 5000 lb truck, have at it!

Im having the tires rotated for the first time at my next oil change. Once they deal with breaking the lugs free, when I get home I will swap the wheel locks for the standard lug nuts.

Take 4 lugnuts with you and ask them to change them out for you. They’ll do it just remember to ask for the others back.

Back then the costs they provided me for getting my car there and the new one back were like 5x what it cost me to drive there and back - and I’m taking my time into account with that calculation. Still a great dealership.

Have you pulled Kelley Blue book and Black Book, True Car, other dealerships or website and other comparison/price checking services (USAA or other car insurances do buying programs as well)?

I pulled a bunch of info up on the 2014 Express HEMI I currently own (I ordered it with specific options, as I wasn't paying for excess I didn't want or need), from multiple sources during negotiations and sit downs and such. Used my own financing via USAA and got 1.95% interest (740 credit score).

They tried to pull that same garbage with me, even saying after "dealer incentives and discounts" the truck was around $42K. On the spot I pulled out all my info and loan pre-approval on my phone for the price found (around $33K) and walked out the door that afternoon with my Express for right at $32K and change.

If you go into it with all the pertinent information, you will get very little pushback. Come prepared and you'll get what you want for what you want to pay.
