So last month the wife and I traded in our 2016 Ford Fusion 2.0 Ecoboost for a new 2018 Ram 1500 quad cab 4x4 with 3.21 rear end and 5.7 Hemi. The price was too good to pass up! We put 275/65r20 toyos which is about 34' one two weeks ago and have yet to calibrate the speedo and no mods. We have 2013 1500 crew cab with 3.92 rear end and 6 speed tranny with the 5.7 and 35's(305/70r18) with diablo 91 tune , S&B CAI and Gibson dual exhaust. The 2013 has about 105k miles on it and the fluids changed at 60k with diff(amsoil) and tranny(mopar), and transfer case(mopar). Along with the spark plug(mopar) at 70k. So what I am trying to get at is the 2013 feels underpower compared to the 18. I think after the 35's wear out I am going to step down a tire size and go with 295/70r18 to get some power back. I just can't believe how much the difference 8 speed makes in the 18. Yea so the 2013 feels like a overweight hog hahah. Has anyone felt this? Or is something wrong with the 2013?

Yes it is. I don't think I need to tune the 2018. Maybe just do an exhaust on it for now. Black Friday deals coming up.

Outsourcing to the zf 8 speed was the best decision dodge has made. Not only do you get power anywhere, but fuel savings are there and its so damn smooth shifting. Not to mention strong as heck. All I needed was my carven competitors and it is plenty fast and fun for a truck.

Yep, I had a 2012 (6 speed) for about 10 months..........until I drove an 8 speed truck.

It was that much better so I took the hit and brought the 2014 truck home (same options, different color).

Thank you guys for the responses and I agree the 8 speed zf transmission is amazing. But do you guys think going from 35's to 34's would help a bit to get some power back? Just don't want it to be a hog.

Both weight & height play a huge roll in loss of performance... bigger ain`t always better... thats what my wife tells me anyway.

If I knew you better and you and I were sitting down at the bar and having a beer, I'd tell you that's not what she told me....but since I don't know you and it would be really disrespectful, I would never say that. :)

Ibwas considering trading into a dodge about a year and a half ago. Test drove a blacked out cc with a 5.7 and 6 speed, i remember how heavy and doggish the truck felt, and it really turned me off on mopar. When i found my 18 cc at the dealer i decided to give it another go, this time a 5.7 and 8 speed. Completely different truck and feel!

Alot will depend on the rear diff gear ratio`s... and the 8-speed is a god send compared to the older transmissions.

If you found a 34" tall tire the was also skinnier and one that was lighter like maybe a D rated tire that would surely help.
Alittle shorter and lighter will help.
I love the 8sp as well , I drove a 6sp with 3:92s all stock and while it ran well it did not impress me and I did not buy it.
About a year later I drove a 8sp and bought it.

Wait untill the new 2500s come out with 8sp like this one it will be a towing machine.

Thanks guys. For now I'll live with it and maybe in the future I'll trade up for a 8s speed or go down a size. Tires are expensive.

I'm on my first Ram (2018 Big Horn) so nothing to compare it to, but I love it. Engine seems strong and trans shifts smooth as butter. Going down a tire size may or may not help....but I would think a lighter weight tire wouldn't hurt.

Going down in tire size may change in a direction you wont like... if you drop tire height, this can effect ride comfort. Less sidewall to soak up the bumps. Will be harder on suspension.

I was referring to OP when talking about going down a tire size. Might help his older truck get a bit more pep in its step. I on the other hand will be going up a tire size when the time comes.
