It's simple programming to increase the idle. There's a pid I saw on my Trinity for "target idle speed". On the stock tune mine at least is 550. With my custom tuning it's 650 and my oil pressure at idle us 10psi higher. But I'm sure they have it set that low for CAFE. Gotta get that .000000017% better fuel economy.

I wonder if Alfaobd can change the target idle speed?

My 16 seems to idle about 250 rpms higher than my 11. Maybe FCA agrees a higher idle is needed.

Interesting [emoji848][emoji848]

What's your oil weight ?
What's your RPM and oil pressure when your oil is 200°+ ?

I'm running 30wt RL & at 200°+ my oil pressure is 42-44 psi .
My idle is 550 rpm.

On the factory fill & free dealership oci my pressure under these circumstances was 26 -28 psi .

Where is everyone seeing an exact rpm for idle? Or are we just estimating based on the needle?

I will have to find it again but at one point I stumbled onto a spreadsheet that seemed to indicate there are different versions of each pcm software that night have different idle settings built into them. I seem to remember 580, 650, 700.

Not sure if Alfa would ever be able to have that kind of control by it might be worth asking. Which reminds me.... Has anyone found the data point that shows live engine rpm? The engine rpm data on mine always shows 0.

Thanks.

My rpm usually around 750. When engine is cold. I'll check for oil pressure reading later today. On my 11 my rpm was 550, same as yours. I am still running 5/20 pup.

Hell, if that snot nosed female Congress girl from NY gets her way we will all be driving electric motors around.

Works for me, by that point, we will be driving 10 second electric cars. Check out some tesla racing on youtube.

We are years away, but I sure as hell would drive an electric car with gobs of power, instant acceleration. As long as they dont look like froofroo vehicles.

Until that point, I will stick with V8, but it will happen one day.

Yep, I've seen others mention a low idle but my '16 Reb seems to idle in the 700-750 range...when I find my UltraGauge, I'll hook it up to be sure, but there's no way it idles down at 550.

BTW, are we sure MDS is NOT contributing to the Hemi tic? I ask because I've been researching the 5.7s that go into the manual-shift Challengers...as many already know, those motors do not have MDS, so I just wonder if they have fewer cam and lifter failures than MDS-equipped mills. Heck, they have more since they're probably driven a little harder than an auto!

A very short term assessment (like, 2 days) of RL in my Hemi - its not exactly cold here, but low 40s isnt warm either. I changed to RL on Saturday and didnt drive the truck at all that day. Yesterday I took a 40 mile mostly stop and go round trip. Oil temp never got above 212. Pressure when at idle in drive with oil at temp is about 40 psi. Engine already sounds quieter even when cold, hot idle I feel like *now* all I hear is injectors ticking away. Mind you, I probably only have about 75 miles on the oil so we'll see what the future brings.

As far as MDS being a cause - I know there have been non-MDS engines with failed cams and lifters, seems to be the same exact failure as MDS equipped engines so its not necessarily the MDS system. I agree with a lot of people who say its a materials issue. Its just a matter of when (if ever?) the issue worked itself out, FCA changed suppliers, etc. Or maybe FCA didnt bother because they figure they will get $4K+ to fix your truck after it fails because of their own issue.

Cold idle like 1,000, warm idle 200-300 less.

I have heard of the hemi tick since 2003. Couple of early model hemis, no mds I am familiar with are ticking happily at some high mileage. Owners say been there since they have had the trucks.

Sometimes my cold 1rst start of the day idle is as high as 1,500 rpms ! Usually about 1,350 though [emoji106]
I think the colder it is outside the high my cold start idle is [emoji848]

And even now you still haven't tried the voodoo? Your current ram doesn't tick though?

My 2018 6.4 runs 625-650 Hot idle, bone stock from factory. I'm just eyeballing it. PUP 0w40 at 29-30 PSI oil pressure.

Yeah that's definitely around 700 or so. Looks like FCA bumped the idle up on the 2014(?) and up trucks...

Mine did not look like 700 RPM today. Will check again but it was just a hair about the 500 RPM line, so 550? *maybe* 600?
