I hope this is the right location, it is my first post.

I went for an oil change and when the shop had the truck on the lift they called me out to see that my front driveshaft had sheared! It looks like there was a slightly thin spot on the outer wall, possibly a manufacturing error?

I am picking up another drive shaft tomorrow but am wondering if I can just install it without worrying about how it is lined up/balanced?

Every video I have watched indicates to mark the alignment prior to removing it but with it being sheared I don't have that option.

Thanks in advance!

Indept is correct. the drive shaft should be an easy install. You stated that the shaft appeared to have a thin spot, what was going on with the truck when this happened, towing, etc?

Good luck with the fix

The only time you have to worry about a driveshaft installation if is you have pulled the slip joint apart. You have to make sure the shaft and stub go back together in the same place. One, for the balancing of the shaft. Two, for the phasing of the u-joints. Get either of them out of whack and that shaft is going to vibrate more than the back room of a cathouse...

Installed the shaft today with ease, only took about 15 minutes.

I was on a patch of dry pavement and turning while in 4wd Lock when the shaft sheared.

No disassemnly of the slip joint so I should be good.

Thanks again everyone!!
