Well, when you only take your truck in places you could also take a '67 Buick LeSabre, it's easy to understand why you don't need to open a door to back up. And opening a door to back up WITHOUT a seatbelt is the definition of stupidity. This is why we have this feature in the first place. Some numbskull left his Jeep in drive, got out and it ran him over.

Right now, in my non-autopark truck, I can have my seatbelt on, holding me safely and securely in my seat, and I can open my door to look along the side and at the rear tires, while moving, and not risk falling out of the truck. Hanging out of a moving truck with no seatbelt on is just asking for a Darwin Award. Please only do this if you've not yet procreated. Don't pass that gene to the next generation.

I hate to break the news to you, but...Everyone can do that.
The auto park only kicks in when you DON'T have your seatbelt on.

Apparently in your rush to attempt a smatassed answer, you missed that.

It's OK though...We grade on a curve around here.

I wholeheartedly agree with this...
Sad thing is, Not being able to open the door without their seatbelt on is what all of these idiots are ******** about.

So now this went from a conversation to calling anyone that had a different opinion a idiot.
Nice, gotta love the internet..lol

MY whole problem with this is how they have chosen to stop the truck, I do not think its smart for them to have the truck throw its self into park.
I think having it apply the brakes would have been a much better solution to the problem.

I agree. The way these things slam into park can’t be too good for the park pawl.

Yeap it was pretty clear, you are calling everyone that is disagreeing with your opinion a idiot.

Its cool.......lol

Nah.....I'm saying that anyone who gets this apoplectic over a safety feature that is this simple to get around is an idiot.
I still think that if you need to open your door to back up, you're a bit of a dunce.
My dad used to open his door to back up...He wasn't happy when I told him it was a stupid practice either.
He got over it and one day in the 80's when he had a brand new Silverado and was backing into the garage and caught the door on the garage door frame and bent up his new truck and then started cussing at the garage...I laughed till I had tears rolling down my face.

Fast forward 5 years and it will be “truck won’t start without a seatbelt buckled and shuts off if seatbelt is undone.” Then we can hear the “you’re an idiot for driving your truck 10 ft to wash it without your seatbelt, it’s a safety feature with a simple work around.”

Some people don’t need the government or corporations protecting themselves from themselves. Some people will still run into garages despite all the safety features. It’s ok to vent about ridiculous “safety features.” And it doesn’t make you an idiot for wanting to physically see where you are going and not rely on a small piece of reflective plastic.

This type of convo always reminds me of the people who think the govt should make it mandatory to have back up cameras in every vehicle because people glance in their mirror real quick and then run over a kid. I’ve been backed into by a lady with a back up camera and a back up alarm...technology doesn’t fix stupidity.

It’s not totally like that, though. It’s the simple and plain fact that there’s no need to ***** and moan about this safety feature when there’s a very easy way to circumvent it.

And people already rag on other people for not wearing their seatbelt, what are you talking about?...lol. Do a forum search about those seatbelt extenders, or even the little solid metal seatbelt devices that just simply turn the chime off and pretty much render the seatbelt useless while that device is in use and you’ll see plenty of people just saying to wear your seatbelt. lol.

No, most of us don’t need the government to hold our hands but again, that’s not totally what this is about. It’s about lawsuit protection.

Guess I missed it but who in this thread is being a proponent to this stuff?

And you’re right, technology doesn’t fix stupid. It causes people to rely on it too much instead of their own senses.

"It’s the simple and plain fact that there’s no need to ***** and moan about this safety feature when there’s a very easy way to circumvent it."

-Your opinion and you are entitled to it just like I don't feel the need to have to take an extra step to do something ive always been able to do because some moron got out of a moving truck and apparently someone sued?

"And people already rag on other people for not wearing their seatbelt"

-Raggin on people for driving down the highway without a seatbelt is different then my prediction of vehicles not being able to be turned on without a seatbelt on. And yes, there are things you can buy to trick the truck but AGAIN, technology advances and soon there will be a sensor in the seatbelt reel...and so on."

"It’s about lawsuit protection"

-How in the world can you sue a vehicle manufacturer for putting your truck in reverse and getting out of it? Id be curious to see these lawsuits because if so, I'm gonna go buy a few more vehicles that don't have this and call my lawyer.

"Guess I missed it but who in this thread is being a proponent to this stuff?"

-Didn't say "this reminds me of three posts ago..." I said it reminds me of people. But backup cameras, auto stop features, eyesight, and all that other stuff being mandatory is all in the same category of safety and I guess in your words, lawsuit prevention...

"And you’re right, technology doesn’t fix stupid. It causes people to rely on it too much instead of their own senses"

-Exactly...hence why I'm complaining about pointless features that male me do extra steps for no apparent reason.

I respect your opinions on my opinions, but I'm "allowed" to complain about anything I want even if the "fix" for it is simple.

This is a FCA CYA fix, the rotary dial is too different from what people are used to as a gear shift AND on the 1500 at least it is too close to the radio dial.
Several people have turned the radio dial without looking and thought they were putting the vehicle into park.

I just found out this morning that they did this "upgrade" to my truck without asking :(
At least they didn't do the cruise control recall - as requested - or at least didn't give me any paperwork saying it is done.

Well, then take it up with the manufacturer then if it bugs you that much.

I know that’s just my opinion but I’m not trying to present my opinion in the form of a higher importance over yours. I’m just simply saying that there’s really no need to get yourself all worked up over it, especially when there’s easy ways around it. But you know what, I’m not saying that to tell you what to do. If y’all wanna keep whining over this, that’s y’alls business.

Yeah I can see where you’re going with that but still, we’re not to that point yet. Hopefully we don’t. There are some things that manufacturers and even government officials see as things as overkill. Just like the old cars- can’t remember which ones they were, but the ones that put your shoulder seatbelt on for you; yeah that technology lasted real long lol.

That last part; there already are vehicles like that. Had one. A 2004 Dakota. A little switch in the reel with a plastic paddle thing on it that worked about like an old brake light switch. I cut the wires to it and spliced them together. Problem solved.

Look it up, it happens. Where do you think the vast majority of this safety **** comes from? All these goofy warning labels you see? Most likely from somebody getting sued.

That actor that died from his Jeep. That family sued. Paul Walker’s daughter sued Porsche over the death of her father.

But you just do that and let us all know how it turned out...[emoji41]

I guess I misunderstood you but believe what you want. Nobody likes paying lawsuits for someone else’s stupidity, ignorance and carelessness so, this happens.

Nobody’s sayin’ you’re not. But don’t get upset when someone ridicules certain complaining. You’re (and everyone else) is certainly welcome to complain about whatever you want. Just like how we can laugh at it. It’s nothin’ personal.

You're not an idiot for having a different opinion, you're only an idiot if you drive your vehicle with the door open AND your seatbelt off. I'm ok if you want to eat the windshield in a crash because you don't like to wear a seatbelt at all. Your choice. But when you fall out of your vehicle because you drove it with the door open and no seatbelt, we all get saddled with nanny-protection crap because YOU were an idiot.

If you crash and get all mangled up because you didn't have a seatbelt on, that's just more work for the undertaker to make you presentable at the funeral. But if you fall out of your moving vehicle, now you've become a speed bump and might cause someone else to crash to either avoid your driverless car, or your lifeless body. Be considerate to your fellow drivers and strap on a seatbelt when you're driving with your door open.

I hear ya man. Yes, complaining on a Ram Forum about a feature I don't like on my Ram (along with a lot of other people and the fact that Ram people monitor the forums) makes me feel better. I just didn't respond until people feel the need to call people names simply because they have the skillset to not fall out of a vehicle...and believe me, I'm not upset...just bored at work.

So what is safer...me backing my truck up with the door cracked open, seatbelt off, going 1 mph so I can see exactly where my trailer is going because mirrors have blindspots OR me on my motorcycle with no seatbelts or doors?

Hint: its rhetorical

We can all find something someone does and call it unsafe...doesn't mean I need to wear a helmet while walking around cause someone else is too stupid not to fall.

I don’t think that’s entirely the reason for the words used...
