The power of marketing. Would you buy Dewalt stuff if it said Black & Decker? I grew up in the lumber/hardware business, and with their chain-store mentality B&D's power tool business had really deteriorated. They finally developed the " Black & Decker Professional" series. That went over like a lead balloon. Then they took the very same tools, made the plastic yellow, and slapped a Dewalt sticker on them, and, VOILA, they took off like a rocket.

They may be great tools today, but I just have to laugh.

Yea I've had people over the years fall hard for the marketing on basic hand tools only to troll them when my Stanley or Craftsman crap I got on sale... is the same damn thing, depending on the year of manufacture. Here lately I've been buying Tekton stuff on sale and its held up to all kinds of abuse that I would never think about putting more expensive non-impact sockets through. I still get **** for it, but honestly I'd rather save a buck than have tool bragging rights.

Yeah a whole lot of marketing going on, but after using comparable tools from Ryobi, Ridgid and Milwaukee, there really is a difference (at least in those brands)

Example: was removing our old attic stairs. Needed to cut through wood and nails holding them in, had my Ryobi recip saw and a fresh 4Ah battery pack. Would get 3" of the way through then the saw would cut off on overload. Wait a couple seconds, start up, wash/rinse/repeat.

Switched to my M18 Fuel recip saw, 4Ah battery pack, same blade (transferred from the Ryobi). Not only did it cut through faster, it didnt once even slow down, much less go off on overload.

Ridgid is somewhere in between, but for the price difference Ill buy Milwaukee.

In my experience with Ryobi the battery pack makes all the difference. My Ryobi Sawzaw will do the same crap with the ****** black One batteries or even the One + (Killed a gang of those). The new HP One + batteries is a different story. That being said if I needed them for more heavy duty use than the occasional project I'd be buying something else.

Yeah I was using the One+ battery packs (the HP One+ didnt exist at the time). But I was comparing apples to apples....Milwaukees "best" battery pack and Ryobis "best" battery pack at the time.

My only problem is that Milwaukee keeps coming out with newer versions and I hate not having the newest :)

Maybe I am just to set n my ways, but I prefer my power cord tools.

cut the cord you ol ****, before it's too late.gotta have cool hand me downs.

I'm no tool snob, I just got a great deal on dewalt batteries so it went from there. It was a smart move giving a battery pack as a promotion, and since I have 5 batteries, Whatever battery pack you end up with you mise well stay with that. I'd probably go with porter cable if I had it to do over, cheaper and all the quality I need.

I went through the Craftsman C3 line first. Batteries were Ni-Cad and lasted about 3 yrs. Li-ion was coming out and I was looking for a new line. I liked the size and versatility of the M12. I bought a few tools and was hooked. But, I still needed a good 18v line. Home Depot had comparable kits on sale on all major brands on Back Friday in '15 as they have every year since. I bought a red, yellow, and an orange kit. Took them all home, unboxed and compared them... ended up keeping the orange. The battery trickery with the yellow stuff was a no-go for me... 18v, then 20, then 60. Oh, and btw, the 18v doesn't fit the 20v without a bulky adaptor. No thanks.

About a year later, I was doing some exhaust work and couldn't get a couple of the bolts off. The Ridgid impact just didn't have the gusto. I had already cut the cord and the air line. I ended up going with the M18 fuel mid-torque and have since invested in that line also. I keep the orange stuff because I really like their off-the-wall offerings... cordless 1 gal compressor, cordless 18v/LP torpedo heater, hybrid fan, jobsite blower, etc. Some of their lights are also great. Now, if I need a new 18v, I weigh the offerings from the red & orange and go from there. The M12 fuel line is my go-to for 75% of what I do.

For anyone looking at the Milwaukee boxes- they are great. But, don't buy one now if you can wait. They always go on sale for Father's Day. I've gotten one each of the past two years; 46" upper & lower two yrs ago, and the 60" mobile work station last yr. There is usually a yellow one that comes out around that time as well. I think they are both made by the same company, as they are very similar save for the color.

Found this on Boobs too; PP now has a label that states re designed for turbocharged engines. Does this mean a formula change?

I happened to be at my favorite store on Saturday and wandered over to the oil wall to check this out.

All the PP had the new green label but all the PUP lined up next to it did not.

I should have snapped a pic.

In on your side about maxcare actually doing what we paid for. But there are definitely stories from owners on the jeep forums. Pretty sure they weren't lying, but jeepsters tend to mod more advanced than us rammers.

Jeepers (I'm one, but mine's an old 98 TJ) are the worst offenders of warranties. Many many of them beat the living **** out of their jeeps offroad, then get whiny when warranty won't cover damaged parts. Dealers are very very analytical of problems on the jeeps, for just this reason. And I don't blame them. If anyone has a dealer denying an engine claim based on an aftermarket filter, then you've got a very bad dealer (unless the filter visibly failed).

My favorite store is Canadian Tire. For those of you in the US that don't know, picture an automotive parts store that sells everything for your car including tires mixed with a sporting goods, hunting goods, tools, small appliances and general hardware store all mashed together and about the size of a Walmart. On top of that they like putting all this goodness on sale randomly throughout the store so you can get some really great deals.

Is there anywhere in the US with PUP on the shelves ?

The Walmart that I returned 2 5 quart jugs to. Its been about a year since I returned them and I bet if I go there today (which I might actually do!) the 2 jugs will be there on the highest shelf over all the other oils. Labelled $58.94 since thats the in-store price.

A while back when I was trying PUP I called around to a bunch of auto part stores to see if anyone had PUP. 2 said they could order it for some crazy price and the rest either didn't have it or had no idea what I was talking about. One of them said "oh yeah we carry Pennzoil Platinum". I then emailed Pennzoil directly and asked if they have a little of stores that PUP is sold at. The response I got was to call the local distribution center to see what stores they ship to.

I never ended up doing that because I went back to Redline but it might be worth an email to Pennzoil to get your local distribution centers number for those that use PUP.

Or, dont bother just out of principle.

Why the hell does a customer have to call a distributor to find out where one of Pennzoils products went?

How the hell does Pennzoil not already know?

This has been mentioned quite a while ago so it’s good to bring it up again.

Pennzoil has nailed the exact market they wanted two with the ultra platinum oil’s.They simply put Pennzoil ultra platinum in the owners manual of select cars and then only offered it at the dealer. Since Shell is in bed with Chrysler it’s a win-win for both and they don’t have to worry about keeping it on the shelves. Most people that do what the manual says are going to end up going to the dealer for ultra platinum oil.

That’s all they care about.
