Engine and coolant temp don't read below 100degF?

I couldn't find other posts in regards to this. I was curious if this is a thing for all later model Rams. Per the dash readout on my 2017 Ram express 1500, pentastar QC 4x4, the transmission fluid temperature will read close to the ambient temp on cold starts, but the engine coolant and oil temps won't show below 100F? I wonder what the reasoning is behind that? If it's 20F out on a cold start, my transmission fluid temp will show maybe ~30F. Everything else will be 100F.

It doesn't matter. Anything below 100f is cold as far as the engine goes. Now the trans is different. It will limit shifts based on tighter tolerances.

also depends on the dash. The higher end dash does show lower temperatures.

Agree with above, cold reading doesn't matter, I want to know how hot it gets.

I understand it's not an issue, it's just odd because I'm pretty sure a scanner would indicate the 'real' temperatures regardless of the 100degF dash default readout.

I would imagine the real coolant and oil temps are used to calculate the engine oil life. Not sure 100F would be considered a cold start. A cold start on a 90F day is a LOT different than one a -10F day.

I think any start is considered a cold start until everything reaches operating temps. I suspect operating temps take longer to reach in Sub-Zero temps. The AMT of time it takes could be used as part of the calculation to determine oil life.

I have a 2014 with the 7” EVIC and it shows me the actual temperatures. I can see the oil and coolant being close to the outside air temperature when I start the truck. It will even show me the negative numbers.

My temp needle doesnt move til it hits 150. EVIC shows actual, but gauge is 150 minimum.

DOnt know if its like my CTD or not, but my truck (and CTD In general) do not have an oil temp sensor .. Everything works off an algorythm through the PCM or something like that I read about it over on the cummins forum.

This is true for the CTD. All the gassers have actual oil temp sensors, though.
