Have to agree with @JonnyQuest. While I did enjoy resting my hand on the column shifter, I've found other things to do with it and prefer the openness to other accessories vs it sticking out...(nothing in that sentence ever sounds right).

I will say, with all due respect, these are the rantings you'd often see/hear over in the grumpy ole' man forums of Ford. Which is one reason I've found the Ram side to be liberating.

It took some getting use to but, I like it now. Lots of room in the center console. I just have to remember when I'm driving my work truck (Ford F150 4x4, govt low bid) not to turn the knob and put it in 4x4. They are in the same location. LOL.

LOL - we used to have a neighbor when I was growing up who used to put black sticky crap along the top of his fence to keep kids from climbing it. Sounds like him.

I would sell my soul to have a "regular" shifter....even sacrifice the big console! I have damn near run my ass over a few times backing trailers thinking I was putting it in park but was actually drive. The most un-natural, non-ergonomic, device I have seen on any vehicle, ever.
I have even thought of tacking a small lever on so it resembles a column shift.

Well I always thought the center console shifter was *** myslef. I like the column shifter. So a knob shifter ain’t much of a change for me. Trucks have column shifters or manuals. Change my mind :anitoof::anitoof::anitoof:

Trucks used to have actual manual transmissions, AND as if that's not antiquated and crazy enough, you could get them with column shifters. I refuse to buy another one until I can get my six-on-the-tree.

And I prefer the push buttons in my Plymouth.

I'll be waiting right along with this poster in the mean time.

Will the console shifter on your truck work on my '16 Rebel? My console has this gaping hole that all my **** falls into. I'd like to fill it with a proper shifter and convert that stupid rotary dial to a proper volume control for the U-Connect instead of the stupid one that it has that digitally goes to 38 but never stays where you want it. Everyone knows a proper volume knob goes to 10 (or 11 if you're into Spinal Tap). If I had a console shifter, a master volume knob, and an air suspension that had more speeds besides, "Snail", "Slug", and "Sloth"....this might be the perfect truck.

I don’t care either way with column shift, the dash knob or console shifter ... however, I never use the jump seat up front and could totally go for a console for the extra storage and it looks nice.

Dunno about you, but the jump seat in the middle of my 2017 has a nice little hatch in it that opens up for a respectable amount of storage (as well as a spot to plug in my geek stick full of tunes) - and it has three cupholders besides. Bottom-center of my dashboard (where the column shifter thingy would connect to the dash) has a fairly decent-sized drawer that pulls out.

(I never use the jumpseat either, except as an impromptu tabletop, storage, cupholder, etc.)

I bought my 2012 Sport for 2 reasons ... Body colored everything on the exterior, and bucket seats with a center console shifter ... Hard to imagine some dork in Detroit thought it would be cooler to replace THIS with a knob on the dash ... WTH ?!?!5d0bc4be9b09578f4190a6b5708a2681.jpg

Naw, actually the knob on the dash to this almost shifter thingy. Now if you had one like a 60's console with shifter and that, it would be good, but this, NOPE!!

LMAO. I totally agree. And besides that, the console shifter looks WAY more buff than that wimpy ass rotary shifter.

It's like what moron in Detroit thought it would be a good idea to have day time running lights (here in Canada anyway, day time running lights), and the dash lights on. NO tail lights.

I'm old school, to get the tail lights/ dash lights to come on, one had to turn on the head light switch.

Now, because dash lights come on automatically, people drive around with NO tail lights.

Yeah DRLs are pretty stupid too. Weather gets crappy (rain, fog, snow) and there they are, with their little dim headlights and no tail lights. And if you want some REAL fun, go over to the Challenger-talk forum and see how many "dudes" are all fussed up because they can't synchonize their DRLs with their Halos or they can't figure out how to make them change colors to match their mood, to match their estrogen pill bottle color, or whatever they want them to change colors for.

I intentionally did not get a center console. I actually like the console. It looks nice and I agree that the shifter is a good spot to rest the hand. Unfortunately, I need the extra room for my right leg (got a major hip problem). I'm able to tolerate a console for short distances, but not for extended travel.

As for that !^@*&^$@!# round knob, it has been a year already and I still haven't gotten used to it. I still find myself adjusting the radio or the AC control half the time when I what I really want to do is go backwards ... or put the truck in Park. Geez! If they had to put the shifter in that location, next to all those other round knobs, they could have at least made it square ... or even brought back the ol' push buttons. Waaahhh, I just want my old column shifter back. :(

I have the center console, and didn't particularly want it. Makes the front seat area feel tighter. I'd prefer the jump seat, but haven't found the parts and motivation to swap it out.
