I have been using the Lucas Fuel Treatment in the recommended 3oz to 10 gallon ration. Winter, I may move to Howes fuel treatment/anti-gel.

Cumins: I would use every fill up or every other fill up.
I normally don’t let my fuel get too far below half before I Fill up so I would only add 4 ounces.

But with that said I don’t drive my 6.7L every day either like most.
1 full tank will last me a month or more.

Truth be told: you’re only going to achieve the true benefit of the product when you add it @ the proper dosage.

This applied to either my '98 RAM 2500 (360 ci) or my '12 RAM 2500 (408 ci)...

I don't use additives on a regular basis. I basically dump a 5oz bottle of the Lucas fuel treatment into a full tank whenever I'm going to be doing heavy hauling. If I'm pulling either of our really big work trailers, I'll dump in two bottles. No scientific proof for this, but I figured that if I'm loading the engine more, any positive effect of the cleaner would just be more relevant.

Can I notice any difference? Nope...

Just a very simple minded update:

Sold the last 2 gallons of Stanadyne to a co-worker for his new 2018 Ford.

I am (Now) strictly adding:
4oz (XPD) Opti-Lube w/ 4oz Schaeffers (Diesel Treat).

8oz total every fill up!
A tank of fuel might last me a month.

(Every May/November I am adding 16oz HSS Diesel Extreme).
During the winter months I still add 4oz HSS Winter Diesel.

Hey! You know what?
No issues so far!

When Red Line 85-Plus is on sale I will normally purchase a couple bottles at a time.
My e-bay seller usually has these 2 on sale at least every 6 months.

Opti-Lube: is my most costly investment.
HSS: with the coupon codes & free shipping is decently inexpensive in the correct dose.
Schaeffers: is a very effective product which is priced very fairly with the right jobber.
Red Line: Is just that RL!

Around $65-$75 a year spent!
Most fine folks spend that a month on cigarettes/alcohol/*****/drugs.

Just an example: Last month these 2 Gems were on sale for $18 w/free shipping.

Yup! Cummins now owns PS!
I can understand why Cummins now promotes the use of (Those) diesel additives --------->$$$$$$

Ok! I'm going to retract my statement!
I could have sworn about a year ago or so Cummins purchased the rights to PS.

Then put out a statement claiming endorsement of the product.

It seems my imaginary articles have vanished into thin air!

I'm not a believer in Fake news so I will retract my statement.
I do apologize!

I am sure there is still some mutual advantageous transaction between Cummins and PS. The quoted press release touches on it and I have read elsewhere that ******'s hand was forced after years of not recommending fuel supplements to embrace one with the advent of Ultra Low Sulpher fuel. Mainly due to the varying quality of ULSD from region to region.

Ok: As of a month ago I am strictly using Schaeffers SoyShield or Diesel Treat 2000 which is a Emulsifier @ 4oz per 30gal.
I also will add 8oz Hot Shots Secret - Diesel Extreme

So basically 12oz of additive @ every fill up which will normally always be 15 gallons of more each time. (Actually a really finite amount)

Every so often my Ebay Red Line jobber - will advertise his diesel additives on sale w/Free shipping. Can't help but stock up on a few bottles!

Riverman: Just a general question.

What brand of diesel additives do you have access to locally?

Would you order diesel additives on line or would you prefer buying locally?

Locally: Probably at any truck stop or Auto Store you can pickup
1. Grey - Power Service (Diesel Kleen)
2. Stanadyne (Lubricity or Performance formula)
3. Howes Diesel Treat

Out of those 3 - I myself prefer Stanadyne

Not a fan of the Lucas Fuel Treatment.

I use Howe’s Diesel Treat in my 2004 5.9. During the warm months I run 1 oz to 5 gal fuel every other tank and during the winter I run 1 oz to 2.5 gal fuel every tank. There are a few other treatment options around me here in NW Ohio, but I know some people that use Howe’s and I got started with them

I can get Diesel Klean and Stanadyne locally, usually. A will order also.

I just bought the truck, I want to clean the injectors, then keep it up with a good product thereafter.

If you chose to buy and use from local businesses I would select Stanadyne over PS!

If you have access to Amazon: You have a huge selection to chose from.
This is where I get my Schaeffers SoyShield & Diesel Treat & Neutra!

Good Luck to you!
Stanadyne lubricity and Performance Formula (I feel) are both good products.

Hot Shots Secret (Diesel Extreme) has a ton of Excellent reviews!

Edit:
Good thing is: Every diesel truck owner has their own special opinion on whether or not adding diesel fuel additives is beneficial or not!

Just like every individual person has their own special opinions on many many other items in life that are necessary or not - a lot of wasted $$$ in every minute of every day!

There really will never be (correct/true) Yes or No answer whether or not we need to add diesel additives!
Every thing in this thread is based off of Personal (Opinions and Preferences).

.

Not bashing this stuff, as I have never used it.

But when I read your quote, the questions I ask myself are: A) Who is the reviewer B) What criteria was reviewed C) How was it reviewed D) Was the review based on impirical testing?

Read reviews....it is rare to get a good, honest, based on fact and no emotion, review.

Most often what you see is, "I put Diesel Super Juice in my truck, and it's 10mph faster now!", or, "Super-Secret 4-ball wear tested synthetic additive stuff made my truck accelerate better than ever!".....Which is mostly emotion reacting to the dollar ninety five they just spent on the crap.

Favorite of all these is the K&N air filters. They allow more intake noise to come through to the driver, in many cases. Driver hears noise, equates it to more power, and the reviews come out.......None of which really mean much.

But as you said, "....every individual person has their own special opinions on many many other items in life that are necessary or not..."

True dat.

Yes Sir!
That's all they are & ever will be ----> Opinions!

I for one have never made any type of claim be it (positive or negative) concerning the addition of a fuel additive!
But if the additives are truly indeed a waste I can only imagine what most Should say about Cigarettes - ***** - Drugs - liquor! 10X the $$$!
But these are never brought up as a waste & totally not necessary!
As well as Lift Kits - Level Kits - Large wheels & Tires - After market Audio equipment - Tuners - CAI - Some spend $10K or more on stuff like this!

Strange! :hmm:

I guess I prefer to waste my very small amount of $$ on diesel fuel additives!
I like my odds compared to most!

Oh by the way: I like running N2 in my tires! :boobs:

Scott: Thank you for your Opinion!

I don't think they are a waste. I use them. I just don't know how to quantify the effectiveness of one over the other without testing under identical conditions, over a certain time period, etc.

Oil...You can test breakdown temp, lubricity, ability to flow under temps....Additives? Dunno.
