Lance (Made in California) or Adventurer (Made in Washington) would be my choice.

You'll likely overload your truck and the headlights will be pointing at the sky. Slide in campers and 1500 trucks are really not a great fit.

For a slide in camper you are really looking for a 2500 Gas or 3500 Diesel. There is t nearly enough payload in a 1500 for one.

Even with a "1/2 ton slide in" with the 4th gen & newer 1500 you would want all three upgrades. 1. Axle to frame airbags such as Timbergrove for the low psi non bouncy support suspension control and dampening especially for when you hit rough terrain potholed curves etc. Quality heavy grade rubber & brass fittings etc. not thin plasticky in coil bags with plastic fittings etc that leak and must be filled before loading. 2. The Roadmaster manchild 1 1/8' swaybar built specifically or especially for slide in campers and our 1500s. 3. E load range tires.

https://timbergroveenterprises.com/ IMO basic $350 bags is all you need the expensive on board air compressors are nice if you have the cash to burn but not necessary.

These are thick heavy 8 ply side walls rated to carry up to 3,195 pounds a piece or nearly 12,400 pounds on the truck axles. Although with the 1500 you won't want to have much more that 8k on the truck as you run out of axles & brakes and since you start out with 5,500 ish you get there quick.

BTW for controlling speed down a mountain grade etc if you have the Ecodiesel the optional turbo brake available with a GDE / PPEI tune might be as desired as the extra power.

Just me talking here, but before I got to interested in a slid in I'd check price/reward as compared to small TT, even the smaller pop up campers will give you more space and versatility. I understand it all about what you want and what you're going to use it for, all I'm saying is don't get focused in one direction, explore you're options.

Well said,

With a 1/2 ton you wont be able to tow anything with a camper in your bed.

Yup, towing a small TT a lot better option. U pay on fuel mileage, but oh so much safer, especially with WDH and proper tow setup, just IMHO.....

Northstar has some lighter campers and is a highly respected brand. Regardless, a truck bed camper is much better on a 2500.

I think a lot of pro slide in folks are leaning that way because they want to tow something as well. The problem is the plush riding modern 1/2 ton just won't handle it, especially without modification. There is no Heavy Half or Camper Special models any more. Another one and done thread by the way, the OP disappeared. I guess it gives the rest of us a topic for discussion though.

There are a few campers that are designed for 1/2 ton pickups, including a Lance model. You give up capacity in the water and holding tanks and with an inside bathroom (porta potty instead) and the size of the fridge.

There are solid side slide in campers and also pop-up types and these greatly reduce wind resistance when driving on the highway.

A new camper that sells for $40,000 can often be purchased as a used camper for $20,000. Worth the effort to track one down. Put in the electrical and suspension mods and tie-downs before you start your search to you can go quickly to find a used camper in better than average condition.

You get twice the room and interior amenities with a travel trailer.
