I recently installed the Bilstein 5112 2in lift springs in the front along with 5100 series shocks all around. I have installed an adjustable track bar in the front also and everything is perfectly level and rides MUCH better for the most part. My next move is to raise the rear 1 inch. One thing that I am not real happy with though is the amount of small rebounds in the rear unless I run the tires (Falken A/T3W) down around 55-60 psi. This is the same as when i had the original shocks, but just a bit softer now. So, I have been looking at the Carli progressive rate 1in lift springs, but they are $400. I was wondering if standard Power Wagon springs would work, and also if they can, how are they different than standard 2500 springs (besides being 1 inch taller). I am not really worried about the 10-15% lower payload with the Carli springs as I rarely tow, and I don't think I will ever be loaded anywhere near the max payload of the truck. Usually it is just camping gear with the occasional load of wood.

You’ll likely have unpredictable handling since PW springs are also much softer than regular springs to allow for additional articulation. I personally wouldn’t mix and match springs.

You will have to get new shocks in the rear that are valved to match the spring rate of the coil you get.

Thanks for the response. For some reason I never received any e-mails stating there was replies.

I understand the springs will be softer. That is what I am looking for actually because I have softer springs up front now. With 3-400 lbs of sand in the back and the rear tires set at 60psi it rides much better.

Look at Thuren
I looked at Thuren, but they appear MUCH software than the power wagon and even require the swaybar links because of the extra travel. Not sure I want that soft as they don't mention anything about payload or towing reduction.

Do you have a link to these? I can't find them. Also, what shocks are you running with them?

Was thinking as you had stated this. Thuren will give you what you're looking for with lift and softer ride.

G. Mcpherson, thanks for the feedback. Yeah, I don't tow or haul much, but I just wasn't sure if it would be overly soft compared to the Carli 1 in multi-rate.

I use Timbren when towing my Trailer. You could install Air Bags with Daystar Cradles. More money tho and Timbrens are easy to change out when not towing. Send an Email to Don at Thuren and he will answer anything you might want to know.

Sorry for the derail, but would timbrens be good to run with a TT and Weight distribution hitch vs air bags

It is very easy to just install the Timbrens when towing. With bags the cost and install of cradle adds expense. They worked well for me. About 15 min. install each time. only a little over 200.00 for them vrs. 300+

Thank you for that. I don’t mind spending a little more for bags if they help with some payload and towing. As I said earlier, I’m just going for about a max GVWR TT of about 9k.

If you decide to go with Bags and Cradles there is some good information on how to mount the Cradles to the jounce bump plate. Just need to lay it out and drill and tap it.

I'd rather have airbags. They provide the sway stability this chassis lacks in addition to added spring rate. Timbrens are only good as overload springs, limit uptravel when installed, and require installing and uninstalling if you don't plan to keep them in all the time.

Out of all my serching, I never came across these. Thanks for the part number. Some sites list them as 5" instead of .5, but the ICON instructions show them at .5"

How do you like them compared to stock? Do you know what the impact to the payload is?

Also, why are you wanting to swap to the ICON shocks from the 5100s?

i dont have any specific numbers on the impact to the payload, i do know that a yard+ of stone dust can still go in the bed without hitting the bumpstops. Icon calls it a multi rate spring so it does sag quickly initially, couple hundred pounds near the tailgate is enough to see a ride height difference on a leveled truck.

the 5100's are not holding up well for me, the entire body of the shock is corroded and the nuts/threads are fully rusted. i had to the take a cutoff wheel to the front 5100s i replaced this fall. they were on the truck for roughly two years.

So what tire pressure do you run in the rear? Most air down to 50-60psi in the rear to make the ride more comfortable when empty. I fear even with new springs if you are running 80 psi it will still be rough. That’s a lot of air pressure with no weight on it. Just something to keep in mind. Also Carli and Thuren and icon have the same payload on their springs as factory, they just sag more due to the softness of their spring. But Carli and thuren can give you more travel and for me personally that’s a win win. But like I said, the tire pressure in the rear is really going to dictate the ride of the truck.

I usually run the rear at 55-60 which gets annoying with the low pressure light. But, i just had my truck in for oil change and a few recalls and they filled it back to 80 psi. Now, today it was the warmest it has been since I put the 5100s on and at 50 degrees, even with 80psi, the truck felt great. I will drop the rears down again though for better tire wear.

One thing i saw with the Thuren and Carli were that I would need longer shocks because of how soft the spring were. They said I would have issues with the shocks topping out. Would this be the same with the Icons?
