you will never lose nav, but after 5 years your travel link subscription will end. That gives you those annoying weather advisory notifications for stuff that isn't anywhere near you and also realtime traffic which is nice for the navigation to reroute you to save from having to sit in stop and go traffic

I was wondering about that. With the ability to be able to use the iPhone integration through CarPlay, I don’t even use my NAV at all so that’ll be one service I won’t be renewing when it expires in four more yeahs...lol.

Speaking of which since it is so redundant and useless, where do I go to turn those weather alerts off at?

From everything I have seen you can't turn the weather alerts off in the menues. However with the tazer you can turn travel link off, but that turns weather alerts and live traffic off.

Tazer?...lol

I’d love to turn that live traffic off as well since it’s tied to the NAV, and that using google Maps anyways, it has live traffic on there as well. Not sure about Apple maps but I think even Waze is the same way.

on a 2018 with android auto and car play you never had the option of custom voice reply over the bluetooth connection since the service is Sirius Guardian. The only way to custom text reply on that radio is through android auto or carplay, and that is free.

Yep, but chrisbh17 has a 2017 so he would have to pay to send custom texts. Previously I had a 2015 and I didn't renew after the trial period because the only thing I would have wanted would have been the custom text feature, and felt it wasn't worth the money.

As it is now, in my 2018, when replying to a text the Uconnect screen gives me the option of sending a custom text or a predefined text.l If I tap on the custom option the result is I get a list of the canned responses. If I tap on the option to send a predefined message I get the message that I need to use Android Auto. In other words, the options are screwed up and reversed on the menu.

My UConnect is almost up and I was wondering what actually stops working? All I know is remote start and voice text. What else will I lose?

You also lose those nice emailed vehicle status reports. I think I paid $160 a year for my renewal. I renewed because I like to be able to start and lock/unlock my truck from beyond my key fob range. Yes, it's overpriced but they have you by the short hairs, don't they.

I have 2014 Charger and a 2016 Ram EcoDiesel and we still get email updates and access to our owners' dashboard telling me our vehicles status. No cost.

Between Uconnect and Navigation, Dodge is ripping off its customers. $150+ for a nav update that is no more than a download? I can buy a better system with lifetime (I have this) updates for well under $100. When your truck costs over $50,000-$60,000 how can they nickel and dime you? Without Uconnect all your Apps are mostly useless too. Bait and switch as far as I'm concerned. You test drive your vehicle and fall in love with the design and operation and 6 months later they pull some of those operations away unless you pay an extortion fee. Shame on Chrysler. As far as satellite radio goes, I never pay full price. I pay $25 every six months instead of the autopayment method that rips you off for more than $100.

Having a canada truck I dont get an option for "Uconnect app- the ability to lock, unlock, sound horn and remote start your vehicle from virtually anywhere in the world, your diver assistance, emergency 911, and the security services to help with theft, kinda like LOJAC."

Then again I cant do remote start anyway with the Ravelco I installed so meh I guess. I intend on having a garage here in the next 2 years so would of been wasted anyway. The only thing about the LoJack thing is even now not all Police departments have the special instruments to track these stolen cars down, which is why thieves are taking these cars toward the more rural towns to chop em up. It is why I got the Ravelco instead. I honestly dont like how someone could turn my truck on with just a wifi connection, imagine going out to your truck to find it ran out of gas because of some jerk hacker.

On a side thing though because my truck is Canadian I get Navigation and everything else Uconnect radio provides for free.

I miss the remote start and the ability to send a destination and route to the truck with my phone.
But, it wasn't worth the price to me.
I'm retired if I was wanting to start it 5-6 days a week in a parking lot that the key fob wouldn't work I might have paid the ridiculous fee,
but I don't and I didn't.
I do miss it a couple of times a month or so.

Only thing I miss is the ability for custom voice reply to texts.

But I refuse to give in and pay full price just for that. It should be free, or really cheap, since it's a safety feature IMHO.

Mine expired. Come winter, I reactivate for a couple of months. Then I deactivate till winter. My voice to text will NOT send my messages. I look at my phone & it still has an hourglass showing pending. Tried to fix my phone & it still is an issue. Call customer service & was told I needed to upgrade the software on the radio. Went thru that garbage & still same issue. I just pick up the phone & call or make my text before driving since GA now has hands free law.

Yep, I chose to just use my TomTom instead of paying $5-600 to activate. I pay $30 for 6 months XM. Renewal period on 2nd year was $200+. I forgot to cancel prior to renewal & had to get them to cancel after I was charged. Checked online a week later & got promo pricing.

As I’ve said before, my NAV is pretty much useless to me. That’s why I’m glad for the Apple CarPlay integration so that I can sling Google Maps, Apple Maps or Waze on the screen. Much better than that factory NAV ******** that they charge you a large sum of money to upgrade.

But OnStar for GM isn’t cheap, either. Those are premium services that you pay extra for.

But what features are they pulling after 6 months? All of those premium features are supposed to last a year before you have to pay to continue using them.

As far as the XM radio, I could probly get away with just the basic, 25-dollar every 6 months or whatever it is package but my $65 per every 3 months gets me the best of Sirius- since I gotta have the NFL channels, Howard and among others: since our radios are XM based and not Sirius based. Plus I get the ability to rewind, and have App access to play my subscription in my big truck from my phone.

All paid/trial features are now officially over. I found I didn't use any of them except for Sirius, but there's enough free streaming services that it doesn't matter. Nav is still on, but it sucks as we all know. Again, plenty of free apps for this with free updates as well.

I figure I'm saving $300+ per year on features I either never used or could care less about.

I know there are some of you that say we paid $60k+ for a truck why be so frugal and cheap.

I say send me all the $300 checks you want. I'll PM you my info.

Craw,
I have a 2014 Laramie Longhorn, Canadian vehicle. I bought it Labor Day just outside of Boston. Of course it had to be imported back to the US first. The nav system was running a 2015 update and the maps I believe are Canadian base. I am wondering how it is that you are geting Nav/Uconnect for free? The UConnect site says I am completely up to date with the 2015 update and the Map people say I cant update maps untill my system is updated to at least 2017.11 something. I have downloaded and installed the 17 system update, recieved from this forum, successfully. I don't really notice that much difference. I contacted Ram customer service and left them a pretty scathing message. I was looking forward to hearing from them but have not heard or seen any replies yet. Any pointers in how to get the UConnect stuff? I guess I will work on the maps at another time!

Yep. Every couple of months when I would pull my truck out of my steel barn I got the status email basically the second it was outside even after Uconnect expired. I called and asked them to stop scanning and monitoring my truck. I no longer get emails, but I'm sure they still know every time I pull out of the barn.
