The 68RFE is fine as long as you leave the truck stock. Its the guys that tune and add horsepower that start having issues with it.
.
Is it the same motor, just a different tune?Don't forget that means you have the low hp cummins (800ftlbs) not the high out put (930ftlbs).
Not sure where to put this...
I have a 2018 Ram 2500 w/Cummins and 68RFE. On Saturday, out of the blue, while slowing down when it shifts down to 4th there's a distinct clunk and the truck lurches.
It never did this before and everything else seems fine with the transmission, it's just that one downshift into 4th. 23,000 miles on the odometer. The most I tow is a 6000 lb trailer. The truck isn't abused.
Has anyone experienced a similar symptom? Not having a lot of trust in dealership techs, I was hoping someone could provide a little insight before I take it in for warranty work.
Thanx for the response. I thought it might be something in the ECU so I disconnected the batteries for a while... no love, still does it.Never had that happen before and haven't heard of anyone else experiencing it either? I'd just keep driving it and see if it happens again. The only thing I've had go wrong with mine was a failed shift solenoid (which ended up becoming a recall later on) but that was fixed prior to 2018 models.

Oh, it's going to the dealer as soon as the holiday weekend is over. I'll let ya know. Thanx.Hey half_crazy,
We certainly understand why this may be concerning. Please let us know via private message if you decide to have your dealer look into this.
