Or wait, maybe it was his truck is just out of warranty now (drives a LOT) and he has to pay to get it fixed. Either way... WTF

I don't know about the Ike, but I do know I pulled my old box trailer with my buddy's 1500 5.7/8 spd/3.92, and I was embarrassed how much better the powertrain worked compared to my 2500 6.4/66RFE/4.10. The 6.4 will feel like a beast hooked to the ZF.

4.88’s fix that problem

last i heard, ford doesnt even have a fix for the door latch. some guy on the other forum says the dealer is pouring antifreeze in the latch. ya, aparently thats what $70k gets you... a free lifetime supply of prestone for your door latches. hahahha

At least they don't have to take the cab off to do it. Ford's getting smarter.

Anyone wonder what ford will respond with in their heavy duty gasser? They're so pro-ecoboost so logically, it will be a new turbo 8 or they use their current 3.5 EcoBoost? It would be pretty hypocritical if they came out with a new non turbo gas motor on their 2020 HD trucks.

I'd like to see tfl take a ram 2500 6.4/8spd up the ike and compare that with a 1500 5.7/8spd.

It would be unlikely for them to put the Ecoboost in the HD. I’d guess the speculation of a 7.0 or 7.3 gasser is the most likely. Replacing the 6.2 and 6.8. I thought I read there were already leaks of documents with the engine size and some other details on there. This doesn’t really matter to them from a “eco” standpoint because it’s an HD truck. I would NEVER touch an Ecoboost Super Duty myself. And I'd guess most HD shoppers would feel the same. If you want boost on an HD application you buy a diesel.

I would be surprised if Ram isn’t already planning an HD version of the 426/7.0 Hemi for the next redesigned Ram. Or maybe even sooner. Who knows. If Ford comes out with a 7.0 and it makes some big numbers Ram will respond. We know they don’t take that game lightly.

I'd love to have the new upcoming 8 speed in my truck but I'll be damned if I'm going to trade it in now that the MaxCare lifetime is no longer an option. Gearing up will have to be my option now....whenever I decide to get around to it.

Just remember if they ever find out you re-geared they could void your Max Care. They also have more leverage since isn’t a new vehicle factory warranty. I’ve heard they are pretty strict with the Max Cares.

I like the dial shifter alot. And combined with the push button AWD/4WD buttons, it's great.
I'm not a fan at all, just more electronic thingys to go wrong IMO. My first Ram was a '95 1500 4x4 and I loved having that 4wd shifter down low...made sure I got one with my new Ram. My dad has the 4wd knob and isn't a big fan.

I'm already wanting a new 6.4/8sp combo with the 12" screen...the wife seems to think I don't need one though.

Think of all the electronics in that 8 speed and 12” screen.... maybe your wife knows you better than yourself.

This is my 3rd Dodge, 6th truck overall. Been down the lever road. I don't need all that to feel like a man. I like convenience in my older age.

Column shifters are so old school. Center console shifters are cool but I would rather have my honey next to me on a long trip if she wants to snuggle up.

She must be a short one. Even my kids over 10yrs old can’t sit there for very long.

I've got an '01 QC LWB Cummins with 345,000 miles. I've been intending to replace it with something new this spring. I love the diesel but I think I can get by with a gasser. I've been comparing the GM's, Fords, and Rams. I dislike the (ugly) aluminum bodies of the Fords. The GMs and the old 6.0 (altho I'm sure it's been a good engiine) don't particularly appeal to me. The 4th Gen Rams have had the drawback of the less than stellar 6 speed. Now that they've introduced the 8 speed I feel like the deal has been sealed for me - PLUS I like the looks of the new ones a bit better than the 4th Gens.

Loved the 8 speed in my 1500. As for in my 2500, I am in no rush. When the 66rfe starts to fail me or let me down I'll look deeper, but for now it does what it's supposed to with little drama. That doesn't mean I'm not a little interested though.

I know shifter location (column or center console) or the knob is subject to ones opinion but all this talk about electronics and “one more thing to fail” is kinda funny. The column shift, center console shift, and rotary knob ARE ALL ELECTRONIC SHIFT.

Grabbing the shifter on the column or center console is no different than turning the knob......it sends a signal and the shifts are performed by a shift motor.

Function is no different, just looks.
