I don’t mean to sound like I’m beatin’ a dead horse or nothin’ but I had a pretty good phone conversation with a service writer today(not one at the dealer I bought my truck from) about the use of 5W30 and other brands of filters. Even about other brands of oil. After I told him after all that’s been talked about on here regarding the subject, he pretty much told me not to use the heavier oil because if you’re on warranty, they’ll just most likely use that against you and deny your coverage, if they find out that’s what you used. As far as oil brand and whether or not it was Chrysler spec, as long as its good oil and the correct weight that they probably won’t care. As far as filter, he didn’t try to push the black Mopar filter on me, but he said that since I’m running a full synthetic that the WixXp might actually be the better choice since it is synthetic media, and that it’s supposed to be manufactured to spec of the black one. As far as the mopar SRT filter, he kinda acted like it wouldn’t be a problem with that one but since that one supposedly makes more oil pressure and that the bypass valve is set to a higher pressure, o told him maybe I don’t wanna use that filter because of that. And he also said that like for example, if a Mopar filter did fail in the same way I was talking about when I talked about that K&N filter that cost a guy his motor that he had to pay for that, mopar stands behind their products so, he said that warranty probably would have replaced his engine since it was a Mopar filter.
I also told him I ignore the **** outta that oil life meter. He said wise thing. He said if a customer used the synthetic blend, they recommended 5,000 mile oil changes. If it was full synthetic, the recommended every 8,000. I told him I try to do mine no more than 6, 65 hundred. He said that was perfectly fine, and to keep receipts and records.
