Okay guys i have a 2000 Ram 1500 and i been having a lot of issues with the transmission leaking. I took it to a local shop and they replaced the pan. It continued to leak so I took it back and they told me my pan was a bit warped so they straighten it and re did my gasket. Neatless to say it stills leaks. They say its coming from a part of the tranny that is hard to fix unless its dropped down. So temporarily they put silicone on it. Its been about a year and this thing still leaks. I taken it to another shop and they tell me its the pan. I was thinking of maybe replacing the pan with an aftermarket pan, maybe something better. Any suggestions?

You say you took it to the first shop and they replaced the pan...? You took it back and they then said it was Warped...? They straightened it and replaced the gasket...? And then back again, and still leak... telling you something else.
Firstly, I'd never trust that mechanic/shop ever again...

My first question, have your identified that it is definitely leaking from the PAN? From the PAN or the SEAL?
Did they put in a "NEW" pan, or just a different used replacement? (Sounds like a used replacement, since it was warped)
Where is the leak at, Is it in between, where the transmission bolts to the engine? Which side or area of the pan is it leaking from?

Are you sure that it is the Trans fluid that is leaking? Or possibly something else leaking onto the Trans and pan.

Those are my first thoughts.

If it is definitely the pan leaking (not from the seal), and if they only put a used replacement on, I would definitely buy a "new" pan with gasket.

Otherwise the leak could be from somewhere/something else, and not the tranny itself.

In Continuation...

My assumption is that it is most likely leaking from an area where the transmission bolts to the engine, there is usually a cover/shroud in between. (since they said it is coming from a place that is hard to fix and needs to be dropped down).
It is probably leaking from the bell housing, where it bolts to the engine block. And it would then be leaking from a bearing seal, this would be completely different from a leak in the Transmission pan.

And if any mechanics can not tell the difference, and cannot recognize/diagnose that...., they are either an idiot, not very good mechanics, or they are just wanting to drain your wallet for what they can.

But again, I'm just going by what i'm assuming, just from what you describe.

Ghostman thank you so much for taking the time to reply. The shop assumed originally that it was the pan. While they put a new gasket they told me that the pan was a bit warped. So they fixed it, put a new gasket and out it went. It started leaking again and this time they said it was coming from somewhere above the pan, perhaps near the front of the tranny. They put some silicone and send me on my way. And like I said it hold for a few months and its been leaking since. I know its definitely tranny fluid. Maybe i should buy a new pan and gasket. If i do, should i buy an aftermarket or stock pan?

Only thing up front that would be leaking is the pump and that is a definite "drop the trans" situation.

Throwing parts at it is going to get expensive quickly, you need to diagnose where it's actually leaking from
