84 D250 Igintion switch replacement help - C-clip won't go on

I am hoping someone out there has replaced one of these on a standard non-tilt steering. Everything was going well to this point in pic. Putting it back together the same way but the slot for the C-clip is now hidden by the bearing. Is there a way to pull it back out to get the C-clip on?

have you tried pulling the steering shaft out and are you sure the piece is seated all the way?

I have tried pulling by hand with the wheel nut didn't budge. I still have the puller kit. Not sure if there is a way to use it to get the C-clip back on.

if you're talking about the C clip that goes on top of the bearing set, it doesn't seem like your steering shaft is pushed in or bearing (steering housing) is pushed down enough. there should be a small groove you should be able to see. you might need to undo the rag joint/u joint and push.

Yes, that is the location of the C-clip. Does the bearing position look right? I might be able to push it in a little further but the steering housing fits tightly to the other parts of the column. Is there supposed to be another C-clip? I saw another groove in the shaft close to the spring but there wasn't a clip there. Also, can you show where the rag joint is? Thanks in advance really appreciate the help!

I've recently rebuilt my steering columns in 2 of my trucks. There should be a 'non removable' circlip below the bearing and one above. you're missing the one above. the steering housing bolts to the fire wall and will be tough to push back down since the resistance of the bearing on the shaft will likely push it along not revealing the groove for the top c clip, as there is give on the rag joint. that's why you'll probably need to unhook the rag joint or u-joint depending on which ever your year of d250 has and push it towards the steering wheel direction. You might need a second set of hands to hold this pressure as you push back on the housing and the groove should become visible. only other easier way is to remove the whole assembly and use the floor as counter pressure. that's what I did. but that's a lot more work for you.

Ujoint or rag joint joins your steering shaft to the steering gear/box.

You probably have the first type of connection.
