I'm a newbie to 3/4 ton trucks and I've been looking and trying to decide what hitch I should pick up. I've got a Thuren Overland kit on my truck and 35" tires so the rear end is up a little higher than stock. There is a chance I'll end up going taller down the road.

Currently I tow a 16' tandem utility trailer with various equipment on it. I also tow a 14' tandem enclosed trailer with a heavy Polaris electric UTV. In the not too terribly distant future I'll be picking up a bumper pull horse trailer capable of hauling up to three or four horses.

There's obviously a very wide variety of options on the market and I'm just not sure which I should go with. I traded my 2013 RCSB in on my 2018 CC CTD and the difference is night and day as I have towed thus far. I've never hauled horses so that's a bit of a blind spot for me. The Gen Y Torsion hitch looks like it would be very nice (and very expensive).

I'm definitely a buy once - cry once kind of guy but I'm not that experienced with towing. I'm hoping for some guidance from the more experienced here. What should I consider??

Just check the rating on it. If its high enough for what you expect to pull you'll be fine. Some trailers have adjustable hitch height as well, which may help you out. Helps to be able to split the height adjustment between the truck drop and a trailer lift rather than have a long drop hitch. Most of the work trailers I pull are set up for 3500s with a straight hitch so my hitch is actually set higher rather than a drop and the trailers could still go a little higher so worth looking into if you have a tall truck. Measure the receiver height and the trailer hitch height with the trailer level to give you how much you need. Tow a bunch of trailers of various heights then get one with a pin adjust that is long enough for the biggest difference and adjust it for taller trailers. Something like this should work well.c45902_15_1000.jpg also nice thing about this style is you can get new pieces and swap them easy33109_33110_10010_10015-2.jpg

The one BWL posted from etrailer is actually made by Curt or Reese. I have that one and towed extensively with it before we went to goose neck. I would also recommend etrailer. We have purchased from them for years.

E Trailer is a great place to get stuff,
I had the weigh safe for my 3/4 ton with the turn over ball on a 8” drop or rise with the 2.5” shaft. I bought the 2” shaft for my 1/2 ton with a 6” drop/rise and transferred the parts from my 3/4 ton kit to it. Makes it kind of nice keeping the locks and covers and what not.

These guys. The nice thing is if you go 2.5” on the shank.. no one can borrow it lol unless if they have a 2.5” reciever lol

Haven’t towed with it yet but I just got a hitch from etrailer with 10 inch drop. It is very well built I have a stock Ram 2500 CC Tradesman. I will attach some photos. The hitch is a Fastway 2 1/2 inch receiver 2 ball 2 in and 2 5/16.

IMG_3908.jpg I run the Andersen rapid hitch, it's max rating with the 2 5/16 ball is only 12,500 but that's plenty for what I'm towing. 6" drop and have had it for 3 years now with no problems.

etrailer has a lg selection and very good pricing. Also provide description and advice on different styles. Remember, Good hitch not cheap,
Cheap hitch not good.

I’ve had good luck with B&W equipment in general. I have them on both trucks. I like how I can tuck them away and I have any ball on hand I could possibly ever need.

PS: I found it waaaay easier to slide my big ass around under my truck by putting down thick cardboard boxes rather than rough strand board and a rug. Try it, you'll like it. (I'm 6'2", 250)
