The remote start distance sucks on most factory systems. Our Rams are no different. My range is about 50 feet at best. I know about bringing the FOB to your chin/head so that your bodily fluids help conduct the signal better. However, what I have consistently found works best for me is to unlock the doors first and then remote start.
Most days I can stand at 40 or 50 feet and the remote start won't activate. Sometimes the dash lights up but it won't crank. In either case, I can usually get the doors to unlock at a farther distance. Once the doors unlock I hit the remote start button twice and it usually starts even when it wouldn't have done it from the same distance before unlocking the doors.
It doesn't make a lot of sense but it does improve my remote start range.
