Newbe Here,

Looking at a 2018 Dodge Ram Laramie, 6.7 diesel, Crew Cab, long box, 4x4, trailer tow package with 4.10 rear diff.

I drive conservatively 55-65 MPH, just wondering what fuel economy I might expect?

Thanks in advance
Jedi

I have 2018 ecodiesel and it seems that my mpg has been going down a little since I bought it. My routes and usage hasn’t changed. I would of thought that when I got a little wear on the tires my mpg would improve. Any thoughts?

Not sure I have any thoughts on dropping mpg other than tire pressure or fuel quality. By the way, what mpg are you getting? Any load or do you drive empty?

I’m driving empty. Also have a gator bed cover on. It’s not bad at 25.2mpg but was expecting better. Also 90% is interstate going 75mph at 2000 rpms. Thanks

Thanks Cup72

The truck I dealing on now has a 3.73 rear differential, should be a little better on fuel yet. Please confirm your truck is the 6.7 diesel and your rear end ratio.

Thanks
Jim

Hi jedi, I have a 2015 4x4 with a 6.7 and 3.42 rear diff , tow a 33 ft 5th wheel at 60 mph and get a solid 12.3 mpg towing and 22 mpg hwy. Really love my truck.

Cup72 said he has an eco diesel so its a ram 1500 v6, thats not really relevant to your original question.

That being said, I do not own a fewer truck so I can't give any opinion on the mileage but the post above is what your looking for ^^^^

There is a lot of room here for variables, as in is this truck stock? Unless you're planning on pulling a very heavy trailer in the mountains I would look for one that has a taller set of gears under it, because that axle ratio is going to lose you some fuel mileage.

Is it 4x4?

I've wondered if the 3:42 was working for those who pull less.

I'll be buying a truck this summer so I have also been wondering about towing with 3.42 gears with a 2017 6.7 CTD. Peak torque rating is 800ft lbs @ 1600rpm and peak HP is 370 @ 2800rpm.
With stock size tires 32-33 inches tall. 3.42 gears don't put it anywhere near either of those 2 figures.
My current travel trailer goes about 8.000lbs loaded but we will be getting a heavier 5th wheel in the future.
I'm hoping somebody who tows can give me some insight on this.

That chart is more for gassers than a CTD. A 6.4 Hemi takes 4K rpms to make 429 ft/lbs of torque, the CTD is making that before 1K rpms. In part you need the lower gearing for gassers not only for the torque multiplication but to get the engine up in the torque band.
With 2500 you'll run out of tongue/payload weight (especially if you listen to the payload police) before you run out engine with the CTD. Keep in mind that 2500s are limited on paper to a 10K GVWR to avoid putting them in a heavier vehicle weight class. The GAWR is the numbers you really want to watch.
Figure out how big of a trailer you want to get into before making the 2500/3500/Dually decision.
