Sitting in the house tonight wondering who in the world has an alarm randomly going off. It's loud and close, almost sounds like my truck. Finally I look out the window and see my truck's lights flashing. WTH.
I look for the fob on the counter where I always put it but it's not there. I start to look for the other FOB and remember that I never got one when I bought the truck and I never bothered to buy a second FOB. I'm the only one who drives the truck. I start looking for the FOB and got really mad that it's not where it's supposed to be. Then I remember that I had to run out to the truck a while ago so I put the FOB in my pocket because my hands were full. Finally found the FOB in the last pair of work pants that I had just washed and dried. Seemed OK but the alarm was off and on randomly and the FOB would not lock or unlock the doors. I ripped the FOB apart and pulled the battery which silenced the alarm.
It had a little water in it and it was still warm from the dryer, but it was cleaner than it's ever been.
So, dried it out and installed a new battery. Alarm has been silent for about 20 minutes now but I think it is time to get that second FOB.
What is the best option for a replacement FOB? I don't want to go to the dealer. Anyone been successful buying one online and having an independent key shop handle the programming? The truck has push button start so the FOB does more than just the alarm.

We've been able to program new fobs using the alfaobd app and a Bluetooth obd adapter.

Fwiw I did the exact same thing about 2 weeks after buying my truck.

Fished the fob out of the wash, got the circuit board out and pulled the battery then set it in a bag of rice for 2 days. Replaced the battery just because and it's Worked fine ever since, it's been 1.5 years.

I bought a new fob on the internet for about 40 bucks and had a local locksmith program it and cut two keys for about 80 bucks. Works great.

Thanks. Looks like amazon has one that will work. I'll see if we have a local locksmith that can program it. Paid one local locksmith a few years ago to program a ford fob and they failed, never went back to them.

Alfaodb can program fobs

I found that out 3 days after I got my Blue Driver OBD2 device . That and I have an extra fob here that needs to be programmed . I might still get the alfaOBD2 anyways and sell off one or the other here.

The Alfa is great to have, not only programming but code scanning as well.

My experience was similar to porkbutt. Bought two keys for 40 bucks, and had a local locksmith come out and cut and program them. Have three keys now...one for the wife, one for me, and a backup in the safe. Backup is the original key...I use one of the new ones and it works perfectly.
