Have a squealing sound like a pully or belt squeal for 2 months now and been to dealer 6 times under warranty.

Parts changed

1. Idler pully
2. Tentioner pully
3. Power steering pump
4. Altenator
5. Belt
6. Purge valve

Vehicle miles 10k

Upgrades so far
1.K&N CAI
2.New exaust system including 50hd flowmaster

Squealing went away for 4 days after purge valve replacment but now has started to come back on and off. Took it back for the 7th time and dealer could not get it to squeal but has now started to squeal again after the 7th visit of course! Dealer wants to let it get more consistant with squeal before we schedule another apt.

Anybody, ideas or have had this issue before and what did you figure out?

Thanks.

I had a slight squeak the dealer fixed with a new belt. They mentioned the original belt was worn on the edge. 14k. Pretty sure I heard it again the other day and will make another appointment if it becomes consistent. I’ll be following your thread and will contribute if I get resolution.

You got a video of the squeal? Did they change the water pump? Looks like 6.4’s I might have crappy water pumps. The water pump on my 2015 was replaced at 11k. Now my 2017 is squealing.

Have you ever pressure sprayed your engine to clean it. Wondering if I didint get some water in somthing that the dealer has not been able to locate?

Is the squeal on "all" start up and both cold and hot run conditions? Does it go away after the engine warms up?

Most of the time after it warms up but then again sometimes after it warms nothing at all. Example let the truck warm up before leaving work and no sound but once I drive 20 min home and get out to open gate its squealing . It's not consistant it may squeal some days and after warm up but not other days.

It doesint squeal right at cold start up at all only after warming.

OK so that would eliminate the known exhaust leak on some 2500 6.4. Really leaning toward a external rotating part. But, you have replaced all the ones that I would go after. Starting to lean toward,,,suspect the water pump. Have read here that RAM got a bad run of water pumps from their vendor. Some dealers have had to change out the pump before delivery because the squeal was so bad. Have not mentioned the electronic power steering because I have not found one post/thread saying we have a problem. Hope you get this fixed easily and that you keep us updated. Fitz

Really suspect the bushing in the water pump. Sounds like the bushing is seizing when the pump warms up. Quite sometimes when the pump is cold and the bushing is moving easier. lets see what others have experienced.

I think you could. The compressor turns on a bearing though. So unless I had my "mechanical tube hearing device" on it (piece of rubber) I would suspect the bushing in the water pump. If we we lived closer I would stop by with my Mech stethoscope probe,,,and we would find that squeal.

I have one of the cheap for dollar Harbor freight scopes but I've only been able to hear mostly just loud vibration sounds it would be hard to pick up that squeal it seems like .

Mine had that same high pitched squeal until we took off the plastic engine cover on the left side of the top of the motor is the purge valve try cupping your hand and putting it over the purge valve and see if it muffles the squeal . One we replaced that purge valve it stopped but I think I still have a pully Bearing slightly squeling on the water pump on and off or whose knows at this point after everything the dealer already replaced.
