What is the benefit of downsizing from 20" wheels to 17" or 18" other than looks. Wanting to get rid of factory SR-A's. Thinking about staying same height tires but wider. Not wanting to give up much in mpg.
Thanks

The smaller rims give you more sidewall which allows for a softer ride. It’s good for off-road. You may lose a little mpg as a the tire choices are most likely going to be a bit heavier. It shouldn’t be noticeably much with the same diameter though

You will save wheel weight, wheel cost and tire will cost a little less. Go for a lighter AT tire like cooper AT3 to help the mpg.

I also am looking to go away from the factory 20's I am looking to get the smallest wheel diameter I can put on my 2017 Express Crew I am a big fan of the smaller wheel more tire combination but want to stay with stock tire height a slightly wider tire would be fine. I am wondering if anyone has specific wheel sizes and widths and offsets that would keep things relatively stock configuration. thanks for any information

I am getting ready to do the same thing going from stock 20's to 17" Rebel wheels and probably the same tire and size. Did you have any issues with rubbing or anything. I don't plan on installing wheel spacers or a lift or anything else. Anything I need to watch out for? Thanks

I like the look of the smaller wheels and I'll bet the rid is better with more tire to absorb the road shocks we'll see what happens next spring the RSA's should be wore out by then

Did you buy a spare or can you get away with using the 20" Big Horn wheel/tire as a spare?

The stockn spare on my 17 Laramie 1500 is a 17" wheel with something like a 205/65 tire on it. It's a black 5 star stock Ram rim but with a thinner, taller tire. Space and weight considerations I guess. Manual also says it is a temp spare...but definitely not a donut!!
