EDIT: Thanks everyone for your input. I went ahead with Fox 2.5” coilovers as I do on and off-road. Sounds like you can’t go wrong with fox, icon, or king. From what I gathered though, king-fox-icon for strictly off-roading is the order to choose.

Hi everyone.

So after moving about 700 miles, my procomp pro runner front struts on my ram 1500 are starting to act up. Best way to explain the problem is that they are creaking and popping. Basically just aren’t actuating properly. I was planning on upgrading my suspension anyways so now is good of a time as any.

I have a 4x4 ram 1500 2015 Laramie with a 6” procomp lift on 17” 35” tires.

I’ve only heard that either fox or king were rough on road. But I see those brands all the time. I know the icon ones will have to be custom ordered as they don’t make any for a 6” lift. Do you guys have any suggestions on what to do? Ideally I’d like to just order something and be done with it. I plan to do on road as well as medium trailing with it as well. I will eventually upgrade the rear as well to match. Thanks in advance!

I ordered the Fox for my Zone 6” lift. There really is not a whole lot of information anywhere for our trucks. Hopefully in 6-8 weeks I can shed a little light. Most are running the fox, icon, and Kings at stock height which limits our research a lot. We can only assume the same outcomes with a lifted application but I don’t have to say where assuming gets us.

Yes. If you noticed in the video the guy said he would probably choose fox over icon for street use. As there is no wrong answer. Everything is personal preference and hard to convey through a video

So you heard Fox or Kings were rough on road? Lol, makes me wonder what else is out there as the basis to compare race shocks and say Fox or Kings are rough onroad???

Not sure where they get their info from for any of these being rough on the street. 1st off just about everyone that upgrades from a low cost setup like bilsteins or the shocks that come with the lift kits say the Icons, Fox's, and Kings ride night and day better. Now King will be the firmest riding of the 3 big names but none of them are rough on the street. Remember with these lifts you are talking in most cases a coil and a off the shelf shock that is made in different lengths. They dont really tune the shocks and coils to work with each other for better ride and performance. Where Fox, Icon, and King all put tons of R&D into their coil overs, shocks, and coils. They are specifically tuned for each application. I cant tell you how many people come to me saying how unhappy they are with there suspension then go to one of the big 3 and are extremely happy they made the investment in a high performance, better quality suspension.

^^Well said, you get what you pay for. I have read complaints but 90% of them were complaints of “what they heard” no actual data or experience. These are in a different league comparing a Honda to a Ferrari doesn’t make sense. As comparing a coilover to a stock strut, very different animals

thanks for the input! As you seem pretty knowledgeable, do I need to special order the rear Fox shocks since I’m running a 6” lift or does any of their piggyback shocks work? I noticed none of them are specified for 6” lift whereas all of their front coil overs are either for 1-3” or 4-6” lift.

Thanks!

You would have to order something for 6" of lift, so if it says 4-6 you could use them.

Procomp 6” lift has a 4.5” tall rear coil spring spacer so you’ll want Fox part number 98224759 for rear shocks.

Those are Fox 2.0 shocks made for BDS. will work ok but are just 2.0 shocks with no res.
If OP wants to match the rear with a 2.5 body shock with RES like the 2.5 CO's he can ask Fox for a custom lenght shock, they'll look great back there as they'll be massive just like the fronts.
Specs on those Fox-BDS 2.0 shocks are 30.05" extended, 18.45" compressed.

Oh if he is going all out, might as well ditch those rear 4.5” blocks and install the 5” BDS coils. I would ditch the weak oem rear control arms and panhard bar for the Core4x4 setup too. While your at it get the Hellwig sway bar and Core4x4 endlinks as well. I like spending other people’s money lol

I’ll have to look into that, thanks! Just the front ones for now though.

Pin @wisey113, he just finished a Kings full setup not long ago, his King 2.5 CO' with RES were set for 6" but we never had the actual specs form his setup, his shop must have them so hopefully he can get those for you
https://www.ramforum.com/threads/upgrading-suspension-stage-1-king’s.135079/

Fox also sells a 4-6" 2.5 CO with RES, which we now know is the same part# BDS uses for their performance option, Fox 883-02-073, 26.57" extended, 20.38" compressed

Icon or Radflo could also make something for you, but you need to know the Specs wisey used for his build for example if you want to replicate that but could always contact King, or Fox, or Radflo or Icon, explain what you have and what you want, and they'll tell you how to measure.

In case you didn't know Radflow existed
https://www.radflo.com/c-47-jeep-truck-suv-shocks-shocks-by-make-dodge-ram.html

I guess you'll need to provide your current strut lenght measurement assembly with spacer on everything since is what you're are trying to fill, scroll down to see the comparison of what wisey had vs the King CO here https://www.ramforum.com/posts/1940135/

And they'll prob ask measurement with the truck level, then with the suspension at full droop in the air.

From all 4 manufacturers Icon is the only one who won't provide reservoirs and/or compression adjusters for the RAM 1500 application, they do in pretty much anything else including 2500 and 3500's. They said is because they have no way to fit the hose/res can, i told them the other 3 companies do and i just got a long blank pause in the conversation so i didn't press them more.

If you don't need those features, Icon will prob be the cheapest route to 2.5 Coilovers. Radflo will also be cheaper than what you see in their website if you go through a reseller, same with Kings or Icon or Fox. All produce top the line CO's and shocks, you're literally looking at the Ferrari,Porsche,Lamborghini and Mercedez of the shock world out there in no particular order, nothing gets better from here, which is why i said i have no idea where did you hear King or Fox were rough on road :)

Have fun.

I’ll jump in with what I can.

I’m sure I have the collapsed / Extended specs somewhere, I just have to find them. I actually don’t own the truck anymore so I don’t know if I left the sheet in the truck or if it’s somewhere in the house.

Mine actually came at the correct 4” height. They just needed time to settle. When they finally did settle, my truck was dead level.

Speaking briefly on the hellwig / core end links set up. The hellwig is awesome. I honestly, contrary to many on here was not thrilled with the core experience. I found that 1. I had to enlarge the holes connecting the link to the frame to get the new hardware to fit, and 2. The holes on the hellwig sway bar are too small to fit the new core hardware. I ended up just not using the core end links. They’re just sitting in my garage. So if anyone wants some blue end links for a 4” lift (I believe they are 17”) just pay shipping and they’re yours.

I’ll try and answer any more questions about the setup that I can, but like I said, I no longer have the truck so my knowledge is a little limited from here on out!

I picked up a 2018 Raptor. Had my eye on one for a while and finally got one at a price that was too good to pass up!

Ready to lift the perch one notch on those Fox COs? That’s all you need to run 37’s :)
Enjoy the new beast.
