My truck is a 1989 D100 3.9 v6 2wd auto i bought a running and driving 1998 durango with a 5.2 v8 4x4

i already pulled the motor and im getting ready to send it off to the machine shop i plan to keep the fuel injection hence why i bought the entire truck so i have the computers and wire harnessing

i done research and i think the trans in the durango is the 46re?

so whats my best option can i install the 46re and not hook up the front driveshaft to the transfer case or should i just sell that trans and pick up a 2wd 46re?

i have not pull the trans out yet but when i was searching transmission on ebay i saw a 2wd tail shaft for a 46re. Is it possible to swap that onto my 4x4 46re transmission?

or will finding a 46rh be better since my current trans is a 32rh i believe

a 46rh would be nice if you do come accross it but you can swap out the overdrive assembly on the 46RE to make it into a 2wd transmission. it is about the only real difference between the 2wd and 4x4's. just the overdrive assembly.

that is just a housing no guts. i don't know if the internals would be the same on the 2wd as a 4x4. i have a feeling the output shaft on a 4x4 is different but not sure.

shift linkage should be pretty easy to make work. just have to used the magnums kickdown cable setup

ok my best option would be to just buy a used 2wd trans and sell the 4x4 one

is looking for a 46RH still better option for me or because i have a complete wiring harness i can open my search for either the RH and the RE model?
