@LeesEvoX I watched multiple videos on the carven, and lots of good reviews on them, figured I'd try to pull the trigger on it, and get rid of the heavy bulky muffler lol

I’ve got it on my 2016. YouTube does it no justice. Zero regrets. Completely in love. I have a quadcab and don’t have issues with cab noise or drone.

If your pulling the factory muffler, prepare to cut off/remove the alignment tabs on the pipes and the inlet from your headers. I missed this step at first and the aligning part was a ******* ***** so I had to re-do it. Also this thing was a 18lb savings in weight compared to the factory muffler.

I didn't have to cut anything off. It was a straight bolt on for me.

A friend has it on his ‘16 and it does sound more “violent” than my 18’ magnaflow w/o any resonator. Still like mine better, very deep sound..

I have a Carven Progressive and it’s plenty loud for me. I thought the Competitor would be too much. Love the sound of the Progressive tho. I have the Carven 5 inch tips too. f0781374ad0d7b9121fdb1e4d241ab92.jpg

Your exhaust didn’t have those alignment buttons welded on the ends of the two tail pipes where they attach to the muffler, or where the muffler attached to the main pipe? My 18 had all three of those and I ended up having to take my exhaust apart so I could grind off the tabs on the two tail pipes in order to get the tips straight. I never had to mess with the one where the muffler bolts up, just the other two. Before, my driver side tip stuck out further, and they both were curved inwards towards each other to make them centered in the bumper cutouts. After getting rid of the tabs, I had more adjustment to make them point straight out the back, centered, and of equal lengths.

Maybe I didn’t explain it exactly right. When you pull the rear pipes you will see a small tab. The factory setup uses this to make sure the pipe fittings are of correct rotation and depth to give you the best bumper alignment with the exhaust tips. With enough fiddling and setting the pipes further out the bumper you can get them tips aligned.

There is no requirement to cut these small tabs during install. It is a direct bolt on fit. I chose to remove these tabs so that both tips could be aligned evenly.

The factory uses those buttons to make speedy assembly on the line. There’s no wrong way nor guess-work to assemble the exhaust with those tabs.

The Carven exhaust is a direct bolt-on kit but as per a Carven rep I spoke with, that kit they make and continued to sell for the 4th Gen trucks was designed around the earlier models of trucks and supposedly those buttons are a thing the factory started adding probly less than several years ago. He agreed that the buttons on the newer models may have to be removed, or notches cut into the belled ends of all three fittings of the new muffler to allow for proper fitment and alignment.

As I said in a previous post, I had to remove the buttons on both tail pipes. With them intact, on side stuck out further and both tips weren’t shooting straight out.

No. No alignment tabs.

When you installed the carven exhaust, did you have to realign the exhaust tips? Saw one video on Youtube by American Truck, and his exhaust tips were off big time..

Not really. The driver side pipe kinda goes where it goes automatically because it has two hangers. This pipe has a second hanger in the center by the spare whereas the passenger side pipe just has the one hanger near the end where the tip goes. The tips- even the Carven tips, have a flared end that clamps on to the rounded end of the pipes so as long as the pipes are pointed straight in the general area, you can clamp the tips down in virtually any position.

The video you saw, they probably just didn’t put any effort in at all getting the tips straight.

Thus is mine, it looks like the passenger side tip is a little high but I think that’s just the camera angle because they really did come out straight.

Well, even with the stock tips, they’re really not that hard to line up.

Thanks by the way for the compliment. I’m pretty proud of ‘em too....[emoji41]

You will have to re align the tips no matter what. You take the rear pipes off to install the new muffler.

The re alignment for me was the only thing that took any time.
