On my 2019 Limited Ram sometimes I notice a lack of steering wheel feedback while making long sweeping, banked, highway speed turns. At about 60 mph going over a highway overpass for example the steering wheel loses it's natural centering resistance and it's as if I could let go of the wheel and the turn would continue (would never do this!). It feels like a steering / suspension geometry issue as opposed to steering linkage problems. Anyone else experience this before I contact the dealer?

Thanks!

Do you have lane keeping assistance or whatever ram calls it? My Acura has it and it will stay between the lines by itself.

Try turning off the lane assist. I get exactly the same feeling in my Limited; Ram refers to it as "torque feedback" to alert the driver to drifting within the lane. Its adjustable and can easily be turned off with the button on top of the 12" display.

I have had the same issue from the day I picked up my 2019 ram 1500. The truck would as your going around a corner to the left at above 55 the wheel would lock into position through the corner. It would change lanes and felt like the wheel was stuck I would have to correct it back to center. I took it in three times and all the deal could or would do was reset the electric system for the steering. One month ago I took it in again and the white coats back east with ram have determined that the steering gear is bad. That was a month ago the part is still not available but has had two different delivery dates and has missed both. So if I am right the steering gear must be the steering rack I believe. So when it is installed I will update to see if it fixed it.

Hi Clifford Jessen,
We're sorry to hear that you are experiencing this as well. Please send us a private message if you would like any additional assistance while your truck is at the dealer.

Mine is doing this too. It's a very slight "grab" on an on-ramp level turning angle. It's a very specific degree of turning, left turn only, and it does feel similar enough to lane assist that the first time I noticed it I looked over to make sure it was off.
I'm guessing a bad tooth or two in the gear rack. I''ll start the warranty process after the snow melts if it doesn't clear up by then (could just be a burr that will wear in

Just took delivery of my new 2020 Longhorn on Friday. I noticed the steering has a numb feel like the power steering pump fell asleep on a gentile steering input correction and then wakes up with an overcorrection. This is on very small corrections that are just off-centre. I'll give it more time and see if it loosens up as it only has a couple of hundred miles on it.

Just FYI, these trucks have an electronic steering assist that makes your wheels turn. No more power steering pump. My ‘13 and ‘19 both have this. If it continues, take your truck in.

The newer vehicles use electric steering to save energy. On my 2018 Traverse the system works perfectly and feedback is great. Evidently this is still a work in progress for the Ram engineers. I do not want to be among the first to buy a new car or truck model as lots of things get missed or miscalculated and they may be fixed later in the year or may get fixed the following year - or not.

Try turning off the Lane Assist, it seems to be the cause of this. If you happen to be not properly centered in the lane. If you pay attention to the Lane-Assist icon in the display, the steering dead-band happens at the same time as the icon changes to Yellow/Orange in color.
