Wow! From my experience, I average about 22-24mpg when going 60mph... You really got me wondering now... Maybe you had a nice tail wind pushing you along. Ill be setting my cruise at 60mph for a few days to come, then ill join in on your thread.
Don't set cruise they best I could get that way is 26. Flip to screen that shows the usage follow a semi and when the meter drops let off till it hits 30 then slight pedal. I can't stress enough this isn't normal mileage I am going way out of my way to make it happen.

Now do that with MDS turned off and watch what happens... Nothing!... Ill go so far as to say your MPG would improve because you are using all 8 cylinders to carry that load, instead of dumping twice the fuel to only half of the cylinders...

Not at highway cruising speed. And I still say, why would anyone want to disable MDS. Mine works flawlessly, returns good gas mileage. If it ain't broke....don't fix it.

I have been turning MDS off lately to see if icould tell a difference. Had to drive about 60 miles oneway through hilly twisty roads. Some steep hills. I averaged 18.4mpg today via truck computer.

But it really seemed to hold speed better going downhill in cruise with MDS off. Maybe it was my imagination. Has anyone noticed a difference?

Just because it ain’t broke now, does NOT mean it’s not going to cause a premature problem in the future. Running a V8 on 4 cylinders cannot be good for an engine.

Spending $40,000 on a truck, then saving a few pennies on gas will never make any sense to me, either. There are better ways of saving money.

I thoroughly enjoy my truck. I don’t beat on it. I usually use the Slap Stick to hold the gear a bit longer to raise the rpm for even better throttle response.

When you don't have the cylinders disabled they all can be acted upon by the high manifold vacuum (engine braking) when the throttle is closed. It's not imagined, but on my 5.7 it's not as noticeable as the 6.4 in my Challenger. Yet another benefit of disabling MDS.

In my Rebel I get 0.2 mpg better with the MDS off, it's not much but at 15mpg I will take that little bit.

You would think it would make things wear but if that were the case do you think they would offer lifetime warranty? Or the fact they have invested millions and millions in r&d and stuck with it

Ohio, I'm going to flamed into oblivion for their next statement, but you asked.....Extended warranties are a very clever scam concocted by by a lot of smart money men to prey upon those who have no clue how money really works.

As to why FCA invested millions in the MDS is because vehicle companies will go to great lengths to get an additional .1 mpg. That's why you get shutters in the grill, thin oil, car tires, transmission heaters, tall gears, that little spoiler on the tailgate. MPG is a big deal to a lot of people. It sways some buyers from one vehicle to the other.

If you run the numbers, for the AVERAGE owner that doesn't use a vehicle for business, the price of losing 1/2 to 1 mpg is always going to be minuscule in comparison to purchase price plus plates plus insurance plus maintenance plus interest in the loan plus (for some of us) modifications.

I completely understand how money works. My maintenance schedule is the same as if it were a basic warranty. I didn't pay a dime for the lifetime warranty. And if anything powertrain goes out it is replaced 100% 0 cost to me. Even if it was a grand the insurance if you planned to keep the truck would be worth it. My truck is 8 month old and already had 24k miles on it. In no way shape or form is it a bad decision money wise to have that warranty. When my truck is paid off it will be wore out. But I have the piece of mind of knowing if it takes a crap on me while I'm make a payment it won't cost me anything.
