I just bought a 2007 Laramie with the radio, six disc CD, navigation system and all. When I try to turn the volume knob up the volume might go up a little and then go back down or it might go up, same thing happens when turning it down also it won't stay muted after pushing the mute button. Is there any way of fixing this other than changing out the whole radio.

At 12 years old the radio is over due to be replaced. You could live with it until you can get a new head unit you like. I think that you would be happier with what the new units have to offer. I realize that you just bought the truck and may not have the money to do it right now, but it is something you can start looking into. Once electronics start showing one issue they usually only get worse.

The head unit is what most people call the radio, but it’s more then just a radio. I could call it a radio instead of head unit if that makes it easier for you to understand what I’m trying to say.

Is there a certain size or name for one that would fit?

If you look at crutchfield dot com you can see what’s available in feature and price range that fits your needs.

I know the voices in my head aren’t real, but man, do they ever come up with some great ideas.

Go to Crutchfields and browse their head units/stereos. Some will work with the CD changer, most will use USB storage media and support Apple Carplay/Android Audio. Once you switch to USB or BT audio you don't go back.

I installed a Pioneer head unit that is media only - no CD player. Saves a bunch of weight and rattly bits.

Also the benefits of Crutchfields is they will give you a plug-n-play harness adapter and face plate so the whole install takes a LOT less time.
