I'm running new speaker wire to radio and door speakers. I am having trouble trying to find a path to replace driver's front door speaker. There's a bunch of obstacles in the way of getting from the wire from the radio thru to the rubber boot to the door? Also, there seems to be no direct path from outside the the radio thru to the installed radio. Anyone have any experience on this, 2015 Ram 1500-quad cab-v6? Thanks, Greg

1:What gauge wire are you running
2: If you’re re wiring wouldn’t you wire back to an amp not the radio
3: please clarify what you mean when you say “direct path from outside the radio thru the installed radio?
4: what brand speaker wire did you buy

I plan on using 14 ga Streetwires Ultra Cable if I can squeeze it thru somehow. Yes, speaker wire from amp to speakers but have a processor/equalizer that has to run speaker output to the back of the factory radio. So, with the equalizer mounted in front floor between the seats, have to get wires to the back of the radio. There seems to be no opening for these wires to get from eq to behind the radio without drilling a hole somewhere in the plastic moulding. And, for running speaker wire to front drivers side door from amp there is a whole lot of obstacles in the way from under the dash to the grommet between the dash and the door.

Can you list out the signal path from the radio to the speakers? Normally it would go Radio -> EQ/Processor -> Amp -> Speaker. Where are you mounting the amp?

Edit: just reread your last post. So you have no center console and have the EQ mounted between the bucket seats?

Most people mount any equipment to the back wall and then run speaker wire back up to the front. You can run the signal wire under the carpet down the middle or also under the sill panels.

Maybe explaining your set up might help then we can assist in the wiring, wire routing and wire management. From the reading what you writing it sounds like you may be just wiring what you think you should do and not creating a plan and executing. I’m guessing you’re talking about pushing a lot of power so list your headunit amps speaker brand models and sizes and what processor/eq your going with.

Wow, thank you for your responses. Appreciate it, I don't have any problems with the install. I put my upgrade system on here but it is giving me some type of error. Can we list components on here? I'm just having a problem getting wires to front drivers side door speakers and a path to the back of the radio as I explained. That's my only problem. Setting the Gains will be last and I've never done that before but I think I will be alright on that. Should I have an oscilloscope for that?

Here’s an unrelated install, but I show and explain how to pull wire through the boot to the door- https://www.ramforum.com/threads/how-to-add-factory-keyless-enter-n-go.134961/#post-1930216
You’ll have to remove the factory amp to do this.
As for getting wires to the back of the radio, that’s pretty straight forward- just run them in whatever route you choose under the carpet up to the gas pedal area, then up and through to the back of the radio.

thanks J 07, I will give it a try. But, when the radio is in the dash, there seems to be no open path from under the hood to the back of the radio. Looks like I will have to drill a hole somewhere to run the speaker wires to the radio. I just thought someone with my truck might have already figured out an easier way.

I’m a little puzzled at what you’re actually asking. When you say “speaker wires to the radio” and “path from under the hood to the back of the radio”, are you saying that you have speaker wires running on the outside of your truck, and you’re looking for a spot for them to enter the cab of the truck and go to the back of the radio? I guess I’m just not sure where or why you would drill a hole for speaker wires to get to the radio?

This is why you need to be extra careful buying used vehicles. Some wiring jobs are down right scary.:superhack:

no, sorry, i meant to say there is no open path for rca wires from the amp to under the carpet, to under the front dash to the speaker signal inputs at the back of the radio, plastic molding completely surrounding the radio housing from under the dash. Seems the only way thru is to drill a hole for the wires. Never had that situation before.

Gotcha. Yeah, there’s plenty of spots. The easiest way is to pull the radio. THEN look for the openings from under the steering wheel area. This way you can see the daylight shining through from the radio being removed.

To get wires from the cab to the driver's door, i had to take off the leather looking cover, unbolt the ebrake, run a wire hanger carefully from the door wires through the grommet to the cab. I had to take the wire cover off on the door side to access it enough.

Well, the from driver's side certainly looks difficult so i went over to the passenger front side and tried to put wire thru. Seems to be no path thru the door. Seems ac/heater housing and metal plates keeping from getting the wire thru the door. I spent 2 hours removing this and that and still could not get it done. Kinda out of patience, seems that you have to start removing attachments by removing metal parts!!!! Can't believe many people are able to install new speaker wire thru the doors of this Ram 1500!!!
