The sports are pretty nice with the color matched exterior and nicer interior, this one looks pretty clean, have you seen it in person yet? If the blue book is a few grand less I certainly wouldn't pay that much over it, if you're not in a huge hurry to buy it I would try to be patient and get that down as much as possible. I'm not too familiar with the value of these year and mileage ranges, but $18,900 definitely seems pretty high for the year and mileage.

Yeah in person its beautiful! I already talked to the guy and I asked him how set it was on that number and he just told me "I need to sell it". And its a smaller mom and pop dealership so im probably gonna throw $16,000 out there and see what he says. Im looking to get a new truck by the early June though.

We go on a lot of road trips in the summer so this new truck would be great to have lol

I am not saying the silver truck in not a nice and solid ride, but if you can go a little deeper in your budget, try to go with a 13 or newer and get the 8 speed tranny. The 6 speed in that truck is good and will last if properly maintained. But it already has 110K if I read the ad correctly and if the previous owner was lazy, that tranny “may” be a time bomb.

Not criticizing, just food for thought.

Good luck and let us know what you end up with.

What should I look for in these 4th gens? I'm not familiar at all with the hemis or tranny's etc. I've had a 2nd gen for the past 5 years lol

Hemi tick
Exhaust manifold bolts can tick too on a cold start. Just something to keep in mind while shopping. Strange sounds equals walk away their are plenty of them out there so you’ll find a good one.
I like to check and smell all the fluids just to make sure someone didn’t trade it in because of a problem. Most dealers should give you a 3 month 3.000 mile warranty so take your time and pick one you like.
Good Luck!!

Okay sweet! Once I get one, is that manifold bolt issue something I can remedy/avoid with replacing them right away? Is it just like any exhaust manifold bolts as far as changing them?

Don't know if this helps but for reference I bought a 14 big horn CC on Monday and paid $18,900 with 136k on it. I'm in Michigan and the truck came from Canada. With the 8 speed I'm getting 19 mpg now. Mine has the bucket seats and I think they are comfortable. We haven't taken any long trips yet though.

Yes you could remove and replace the exhaust manifold bolts, but I personally have never had one fail nor know of anyone personally who has suffered the failure. I believe it happens but have not had the problem myself.

I am a fan of the Hemi, but get the power train that suits you. I have had 5 Gen IV Rams, all with the Hemi, 4X4, two with the six speed, and two eight speed. If you don’t tow and it will be used as a daily driver and for road trips, a 3.21 or even 3.55 gear will be fine and you will be happy. I recommend the 8 speed trans as it is a more robust unit.

Again just my opinion.

I tow occasionally. Mainly just our pop up camper that weighs a few thousand pounds if I were to guess. My 2000 pulls it without issue so the hemi definitely won't have an issue. And yeah the 8 speeds are hard to find around here that are in my price range. I have a scheduled test drive for the one I linked today so hopefully that gives me more of an idea of me potentially getting it

Just a little update. Test drove that silver one tonight and all was well. Really like 4th gens already lol However, he would not budge on the asking price. I shot him a 16k offer and he didn't take it. So, even though I would probably be okay with the asking price, I don't quite think it's worth what he's asking. He's putting a lot of emphasis on the wheels and tires thinking that alone is justifying the price. So not sure. As of now I'm probably passing on it even though it is a super nice truck. Just a tad out of my price range

I have the painted grill on my 11 Sport. It has a few little chips in the front, but it's held up really well. But I will add the caveat that I DO NOT follow closely.

Chrome is for Hardleys and Cadillacs as far as I'm concerned. But I'm obviously the minority. Can't help it if I'm right, and everybody else is wrong.

beyond the looks of the colour matched bumpers vs chrome, I recently found a BIG reason why i like the colour bumpers. My insurance already almost doubled as it was going from a tacoma to a ram so if I ever have a small damage issue, i have a guy who is a retired body dude who can fix it for me. Case in point, I backed into a concrete post and put a fair dent and scrape into my colour rear bumper. we pulled the bumper, he fixed it like new in a day. 300 cash. Same dent in a chrome bumper would have meant...new bumper. 700 bucks-ish canadian to buy the bumper, plus install (which i now know i could easily take on and off myself) but....I like the price I paid.

Oh these wacky dealers, funny how he's using that as a reason to have the price that high, yet you never get anything for aftermarket parts when you trade one in with stuff on it. I would definitely not buy at that price, even just based on the principle of him pulling that line of BS.

Exactly. Funny thing is, the KBB on it around 16k. I told him that and he said that doesn't account for the tires and wheels. I wanted to say, "my ass" lol It gives you an option for 20"+ wheels. And even then it still is at 16k.

And it doesn't even have navigation, parking sensors, heated seats etc that some other sports came with. Like I said, nothing wrong with that and I'm actually okay with getting a truck like that, but not at the price he's asking lol

I'd pass at that price. Too many miles and has the basic radio.
I love my '11 Sport quad cab, 60,000 miles.

So I have been on this forum for a few years, and I have been wanting a 4th gen for the past 2-3 years now. I have a 2000 Dodge Ram 1500 ever since high school but now 5 years later, I am wanting to upgrade this 20 year old, 220,000 mile truck lol

On my 2000 I have the Laramie package and I really do like bighorn and Laramie with the chrome on the 4th gens. However, I like the interior better on the sports. But I am not sure if I like the painted grille/bumper etc. And the Laramie, which gives the best of both worlds are a little out of my price range still.

Basically my question is, those with sports, does the painted front end hold up fine compared to chrome and do you like the leather? And those with the bighorns/slt do you like the cloth interior?

Im really just wanting pros and cons of both. Does one come with more features that are worth over the other. Can I swap painted grille and bumper for chrome ones in the future or am I stuck with the painted ones?

Again, I like the look of the sports but I have always had a thing from the chrome on any truck.

Anyway, like the title says, help me decide haha

Oh, and are there certain years of 4th gens that I should look out for as far as problems are concerned?

Thanks!

I have had an 03 Ram HEMI and wrecked it, then got an 04 HEMI. Loved them until I started towing Travel Trailer. Upgraded in 2007 to a 1ton mega cab dually until 2016 sold it for $35k for a 2016 2500 Mega cab Laramie Longhorn which I’m selling now because my 2019 Laramie Longhorn Megacab 2500 is ordered and built and ships in 1-2 weeks.

I had a 2002 2500 Diesel for 17 years - finally sold it (for 19K) since it had only 52,400 miles on it. Bought a 2015 Ram 1500 Laramie with 3.0 Diesel. It has leather - all the bells and whistles
w/43,240 miles on it - and oh yes plenty of Chrome. I like the chrome and leather - You only go around once or twice depending on your age - time to splurge - Comfort is nice- heated/cooled seats, heated steering wheel, all those nice features. And super quiet diesel - my 2002 sounded like a log truck - !

Agree with your color choices. I ordered mine. My 04 Sport was silver too. Chrysler metallic silver is beautiful. It always looks clean even when it's dirty.

I ordered the Pearl white with Brown bottom of my 2019 2500. Mine just got built last week and should ship in 1-2 weeks.
