It started a while back with P2704 Transmission Friction Element E... Dropped the pan, everything looked normal. Research pointed at either valve body or something internal. Avoided it mostly by driving in tow/haul mode afterwards.

Then would get P0868 Trans Fluid Pressure Low intermittently. Would normally only happen if I was bagging on it. Would clear itself usually, and I just chalked it up to my aftermarket converter.

Then most recently P0740 Torque Converter Clutch Solenoid Circuit Open. Got the P0868 with this one as well so I'm hoping the P0740 was triggered by the P0868. Pulled the sonnax line pressure booster shortly and haven't had issues after.

If I still get them after all of this I will probably need to pull the trans.
Yup sounds like the separator plate and/or the solenoid pack

Only 55k miles. I drive it pretty sensibly most of the time and avoid the wot downshifts on the highway that seem to kill these things.

Temps got up to 172 today, only 44 outside. Normal city driving.

“wot downshifts”?
Sorry, don’t know, but what’s that mean?

Wide open throttle downshifts. If I say need to pass someone on the highway, instead of just flooring it I manually downshift to 3rd first and then step on it.

Little bump on a great thread here. Getting ready to tackle this over the weekend.
Truck has nearly 90k km's and this'll be 2nd trans service (first one at 60k).

I have the MH pan and the highly regarded C+ to go back in (******* that stuff is expensive especially for us Canucks!). Also picked up a RP spin on filter from the synthetic filter thread, has anyone tried this one yet in their trans? Still have to sand the paint off before installing. My DNJ billet channel plate, valve body/solenoid pack, and thread adapter showed up yesterday so chomping at the bit here!

I know I'll have to do a quicklearn afterwards, has anyone done this with the AlfaOBD by chance? The option is there, and Alexey told me he has reports from Ram guys that have been successful so I guess we shall see.
You’ll be the first day on the form to do this, very excited about the results. Good luck sir!

That seems like a lot of stress on the engine and tranny. So, let's say one is cruising at 60mph that's 5th or 6th gear and needs to pass someone else. He would have to manually shift down to 3rd gear. The engine would rev like crazy. And from there, step on the gas and upshift back? Also, do you let go of the gas while shifting?
No sarcasm here, just trying to understand if it's any better than just stepping on the gas, not WOT, but harder...

The RPM's don't rev that high at all, 3rd gear is good for 110+ mph (on my 5 speed 3rd gear will display 4th on the dash, not sure about the 6 speeds even though they're physically the same trans).

So sometimes I will upshift again manually, sometimes not. Really depends how far I am going. If a long haul then yes I will shift back up eventually. Personally I do lift off the gas while shifting, don't think it's necessary though.

Just stepping on the gas slightly harder is probably fine too as long as it's not wise open, I just don't like to chance it too much.

I do the same thing, except to 4th gear (65RFE) which is the 1.00:1 gear. Make sure to do this especially if you're towing....

Or just get in the gas a little bit till you feel the first down shift and your speed is starting to go up a little , then get in the gas more to actually pass ....it will down shift again then as you are passing you will up shift and cruise right on by ... I find this method not so hard on the tranny [emoji1303]

Still haven't found time to tackle the new valve body, filters/oil/pan change. Also trying to track down someone who can perform a quicklearn without me going to them hasn't been easy either.

I think to take full advantage of VB you will need a tune, but there are plug and play valve body options now, with all the weaknesses addressed.

great video posted my michal rc..

DNJ said to have tune adjusted for raised line pressures. I spoke with Jay and Hemifever, but ultimately didn't feel comfortable doing this. I want this thing to prolong the trans life, not possibly grenade it. I then reached out to TransEngineer on the other forum and the tuner that DNJ themselves work with directly and they both said I should be fine. We shall see I guess.
Speaking with Dave at DNJ, this thing should address most of these weaknesses. Very nice, knowledgeable guy, btw.

Many Many Times... One of the reasons We purchased AlfaOBD, Forscan was hit or miss literally.... The quick learn on AlfaOBD is Very Quick and easy, You will feel it go through the motions...

Many Many Times... One of the reasons We got the AlfaOBD.... The quick learn is just that, Quick and it learns... Every Dealership swore time for a new trans, haven’t had a client return... Every now and the the first one might not go but just try again and follow the instructions... You feel clutches and other parts engaging and Sliding and disengaging and well You get it jist....

I tried the quicklearn on Alfa, but only see the option for the 8 speed...

So the quicklearn on in Alfaobd does work? I saw it in the app but I've never heard of anyone using it....
