13000 kms or about 8000 miles on my 2017 truck. Had it washed at the dealer and noticed paint layer flaked off when I picked it up (see two pics attached). Drivers door at the sill. Dealer manager took pic and said he will talk to warranty folks. He suggested masking it and painting on this thick rough paint and then putting on aftermarket trim piece on all four door sills. I noted the paint there was very thin and went straight to metal with no primer, and he said the paint has primer in it and this area of the truck gets a very thin coat of paint. He said it was likely me hitting that area with my boot when I hopped in the truck. I am a big guy and just hop in and don't touch that area and told him so. Now waiting for the dealer to call me back with options. Not impressed that paint flaked off to the bare metal with such a new truck. Looking for advice on what to do with this.

I think the manager is correct in saying that they will deny warranty and claim normal wear and tear unfortunately. I’ve had those areas lined on my truck when I had the rocker panels lined as I was getting the same wear.

If they don’t try to fix that on an 8,000mile truck I’d be pissed.

My trucks a lifted ‘17 so I know people “slide” in and out sometimes and there not even remotely a sign of paint wearing down in the door sills.

Doesn’t seem right to me unless there was something hard that impacted it in that spot.

I guess the only good news is that if they try to tell you to kick rocks is that it’s in the door sill and maybe you can try your best to get rid of any loose material, then use a bedliner type of spray and coat those areas to prevent it from getting worse.

That does not look like the typical boot drag marks. That looks more like brake fluid dripped or similar chemical. The paint is very thin in that area

This sucks. It’s clear the paint is delaminating. Looks like more will flake off, maybe to twice the size. Paint flaking off the truck is clearly a defect. Will let you know what the dealer says this week.

I agree that it should be fixed at no cost to you. Hopefully the dealer is willing to work with you. Curious to see the outcome.

How long did it take for the warranty. Dealer says they are still talking. I need this fixed before winter. It has been months so far.

Mine was fixed pretty quickly. Has the dealer given you an update on the case#? If they havent, call FCA and inquire about the case# to find out what is taking so long

It sounds like they are just waiting for you to lose interest and go away. I agree, build a fire under their ass and see why it hasn't been taken care of yet

Why is it taking months since the dealer manager took pics and everything?. Open a case with FCA and show them the pics and tell them you have been waiting months for the dealer to fix this crap. If there is a warranty that will cover this they shouldn't make you wait this long.

If they won't cover it just take the truck to your local paint shop and have it fixed for cheap. or if you were like me, knowing myself i'll simply scuff the paint out prime and paint it myself with Duplicolor with something that matches the original color more or less. I'm not really that demanding when it comes to things like that in locations when i'm the only one who will notice it unless i had a Corvette or BMW or something alike. My truck can/will see worst things while at the offroad trail so i'm cured of little blemishes or trail tatoos :)

Done. Paint is now fixed and under warranty. Had to remind the dealer a few times as that should not have taken all summer to book a time to do this. Looks good though. Now I am looking at sill plate covers.
