Very nice! Using one the way it was intended!
Always do. Invested a lot in armor and tires to be able to go almost anywhere. I was on a trail with 200 miles on the odometer.

I sold my 5.7 Hemi and bought a 6.4Hemi.
I currently have a 30’ 7500lb trailer.
1500 5.7 did the job well.
But I wanted a bit more comfort Margin.
So we upgraded to the 6.4. Only used it once wasn’t hugely impressed but the truck only had 600miles on it.
Using it for the second time this coming weekend. Truck has 1200miles now hopefully it does better.
We plan to upgrade to a 12000lb total trailer in a few years. Hopefully it can handle it. Rated for 15000lb.
I wanted a diesel but this truck will sit mon-Thur it’s whole life. I couldn’t justify the increased cost for how little it’s used.
If I had F U money I would have bought a diesel hands down lol

My trucks rated for 15k and it pulled 14k this weekend no problem. People tend to overthink the 8speed.

A diesel will always outperform a gas, but at a much greater cost to the owner.

My 16 PW playing with a friend before it had plates on it. Must be some kind of sickness!

My 2018 6.4 actually got 17.5 MPG highway the other week on a 500 mile road trip. Was surprised. I hope the 8-speed versions do even better.

“Outperform” is subjective, it depends on what you’re using the truck for. Plowing? Off-road? Hauling? Gas wins in each of those categories.

I should have clarified. I am a die hard gas guy, especially in off road situations and daily use.

I was curious how people are liking the 8 speed 6.4. Between the rear diff problems in my 2016 6.4 and the horrible gearing in the factory 6 speed, I switched to an 18 3500 CTD. I smile again when I am towing or hauling.. It hauls much better than the 2500 coil spring, but the 2500 did a pretty fair job for the weight I had in it from time to time.
I'm glad to see Ram finally wised up and put an 8 speed in that hemi 6.4. I feel the 6 speed was the only thing really holding that truck back and now with an 8 speed its propably at the / near the top of the class again in towing.
Loving the Diesel though!

I'm not towing yet, but like the 392, 8 speed. After 10000 miles, I'm averging 15.6 mpg on Fuelly.

I bought it the third week of March, and promptly left on a trip to the Midwest. The rate of mile increase should be reduced from here on out. May be getting a new Scat Pack this week which will further reduce the rate of increase on the truck!

Two reasons I chose diesel for my last pickup purchase. First concern was that the higher mpg meant a lot more miles before having to find a gas station. Out in the west town can be far apart and not every small town even has a gas station or one that is open late at night or on Sundays. With diesel I get 55% more miles per gallon and so 55% more miles per tankful of fuel when towing a heavy trailer load.

Second reason was the time it take to accelerate up to 55 MPH with 4,000 lbs in the bed or towing a heavy trailer so as to safely merge with freeway traffic. It also helps when passing a tractor and trailer rig going up a steep grade with less exposure time to oncoming traffic.

Having sold my camper and my boat I am now in the market for 1500 class gas powered pickup. Fuel costs are inconsequential but I want a more comfortable ride and a quieter engine that does not ***** wildlife.

I don't need a diesel. Barely needed a 2500 but I work from home and only put about 6-7000 miles a year on it so made sense to go to the 2500 just in case we wanted to take our 9000 lb boat on a longer trip.

My son just bought the same truck as me but he wanted a diesel but they were just too hard to find in his budget. His camper only weighs about 8500lbs loaded and only pulls it a few times a year but he drives about 30,000 miles a year so wanted a diesel for resale. In the end he got the 6.4 cause he wanted all the bells and whistles and $60,000 was over his budget. He looked for a used one but even a 40,000 mile used one was $50,000. So he bought a 2018 2500 6.4 Saturday and leaves for a 1500 mile trip next week pulling his camper....lol

Hey guys - new member here, thanks for having me and letting me renew this thread. Saw on another thread a couple guys getting 18-20 mpg’s highway with the new 6.4 8 speed tranny. 2500, CC, 4x4. That is game changing mpg’s IMO. Anybody else getting these numbers?

Went with the diesel again in my 2500, cause it a left over 18. They basically discounted it down so much it was , cheaper at that point than buying a gas version. So at $16k plus off sticker , the cost of the diesel was free at that point. So in the end I figure the re-sale value will be more for this HD series truck as diesel just because.
Was it necessary, not really especially since I will really use this truck as a driver for the most part. I did drive a 19 with the 6.4 and it was OK, but the off the line grunt wasnt there.

Sold a 2016 2500 CTD and bought a 2019 2500 with a 6.4 8 speed. I towed my 10000 lb fifth wheel 2/3 times a year and used the truck as a grocery getter the rest of the time. Used a diesel just opposite of what it should have been used for. Did love the truck though.
