Just want to start by saying I love my Carven progressive exhaust. For the last week or two I have noticed it doesn’t seem to have the same growl. Have had on about 8 months. One thought I had was could it be a bad clamp.
These are the clamps that came with my kit:

These are the clamps that are shown on their site:

I’ve reached out and they have promptly responded and are working to get me the proper clamps.

My question is are the clamps in the bottom pic better/am I correct in wanting those clamps?

If the bottom pics clamps are better and for some reason they won’t sent new ones; I would just need there right:

One of these for inlet:

Two of these for outlet:

Any input or thoughts are appreciated. Also do you guys use and sealant when connecting?

Thanks in advance.

I had a progressive for a short time, too much drone for me. Mine had the single bolt clamps, didn't run it long enough to have problems, carven should atleast tell you if they upgraded the clamps due to problems?
The doubles look kind of like lap joint clamps

I believe they are lap joint clamps. Are they superior to the other style clamp? My previous exhaust set ups were typically welded in mufflers or like that.

So Carven customer care was very prompt in their responses and are sending new clamps but I’m not sure which they are sending. I asked why clamps in their website pic are different and didn’t get a clear answer.

For those with more knowledge, are these superior clamps? I don’t have a problem spending the 20-25 on these from Jegs if it’s a better connection.

The clamps in the screenshot are for a butt connection where your two exhaust pipes meet. This clamp will seal both sides.

The clamps in your pic are for a slip joint or similar where one exhaust pipe slides over the other. The band clamp seals it.

Well first off Ive used both for many applications. The clamps you got with the progressive kit are pretty much the best. Torqtite is a beast of a clamp and usually the go too as it has to compress the slotted (lap joint) one side is flared larger so the pipe slides in, then the slotted pipe (outside) compresses with the clamp to seal. The clamps they show in the pic would be incorrect for your application, carvens pic shows "butt Joint" connections (no flared out end) since the clamps are smooth and straight. They would have to provide you with LAP JOINT style band clamps for your current muffler to work... NOT BUTT JOINT! The band clamps you see in Carven's pic are pretty good as well and I use them a lot. What I find is the band stretches and conforms to the pipe DIA and becomes useless after a couple if not one good tight down.

But if you clamps are tight and sealing with either I don't think thats your issue. Perhaps the muffler has broken in and the tone has changed, perhaps you've gotten used to the sound. Pull the muffler and look inside and see if you can see any blockages or restrictions... it should be a straight through perforated core.

Those are the torqtite, they are the best in both the band clamp and the style you currently have. Carven might be sending you the exact ones so I would wait and see. Hopefully they send you the LAP JOINT version.

Yea I’m gunna see what they send. If not I’ll are the Torca torqtite lap joint clamps : one 3” and two 2.5” and not worry about it again.

Their customer service was very responsive and willing to discuss things.

Update:

So I received replacement clamps yesterday. They sent me the nicer clamps
however I think these are butt clamps
e703b4e1a2c43c28797e0b64ce26c111.jpg
which is for two pieces of equal size pipe joining.
I think I need a lap joint clamp given that the pipe on both ends of Carven muffler are slip fit designed. So I will I likely just order these
4bc65f070aced74ffbfffc1c508ac6a0.jpg
I think the butt joint clamps they sent will probably work ok. But I would rather just do it right if I’m down there redoing it anyway.

Their customer service is was very supportive and sent the clamps quickly. It was nice they sent the better clamps they offer but my research and information gathered here says the best is lap joint for my application.

Nothing personal...But I'm still stuck on, "it doesn’t seem to have the same growl...One thought I had was could it be a bad clamp."

If it had NO CLAMP, the joint would have to become separated before there would be a notable change in sound to the system. You have another issue...And the list could be long and distinguished.

Clamps won't be your issue. If a clamp was loose you'd just hear an exhaust leak and if anything it would be louder.

Its a packed muffler, they always change tone a little as they age....exhaust particles get stuck in the packing over time.

Any packed style muffler will do this.
