hi everyone , I have a 06 1500 ram with 214k on it and always well maintained. I was driving home from work and all of the sunder my rev went up and the gear wouldn't shift to 3rd as the rav kept up when accelerating. di my transmission went out or could this be a sensor problem. I was 5 minutes from home so I manager do make it home with the speed of 30mph but the rav was way up. when I got home I checked the oil on the trans and it was full but smelled burn. I just hope its a shifting sensor problem and not the tans it self. have this ever happened to you and did you have to replace your train or just some sensor? thanks for all the answers... ram on

Was the "Trans Temp" warning light on? When was the last transmission fluid & filter service?

Well you are going to have to drop the pan anyhow. So I would see how much metal is in the pan and on the magnet. At 214 k it sure doesn’t sound good. You could try changing the filters. But you need to get all the burnt fluid out of the pan/ torque converter/ lines and add new ATF+4 to it. It’s not cheap but it’s the cheapest thing to do in your situation.Unless there is a ton of metal in the pan, then I wouldn’t bother. The torque converter may have crapped the bed.

Happened to me but was accompanied by P0733 & P0734 (the RFE kiss of death). Do you have any codes?

Failed transmission sensors do not cause the fluid to have the burnt smell. Internal issues cause a trans to have the burnt fluid smell. You already need to drop the pan and have a look anyway. Once you get the pan down and see whats inside it will help you make a decision on which way to go.

Do you have any trans DTC's? Did the trans temp light come on?

Sounds like your accumulator plate has either broken or otherwise crapped out. mine did that and Dodge dealer wanted $2800.00 Can to fix. Found out this is a common problem and it cost me 775.00 Can to fix. Tranny shop put shift kit in.
