What's your gas mileage with 3.92 gearing and the 5.7?

Evening folks. Newbie to the forum so hope you can assist. I just test drove a 2019 Big Horn quad cab today and was curious if any body else has the same truck with 3.92 gearing and the 5.7? I am wondering what to expect on the highway vs the 3.21 gears. I don't tow a lot, and when I do, it's just my fishing boat or ATV and utility trailer. Any help would be appreciated.

I had a 2017 with the 3.92's. When it was stock I would get high teens on freeway. In town was usually mid teens. Had a lot of pull off the line though. Towed my boat and trailer good for what it was. I specifically searched out the 3.92's because I eventually lifted the truck and put 35"s under it. They will help if you tow and/or plan to run a larger tire, but there is a smaller mpg trade off vs the 3.21's

While my truck was in the shop I had a 2014 1500 with 3.92s and the 8 speed and got about 21 MPG on the highway. My step-father has a 2017 Laramie Longhorn with the 5.7 and 3.92s and he said he gets about 22 MPG highway. I would imagine a 2019 would be similar or maybe a little better

The truck is really nice and rides a lot better than my Silverado. I'm thinking most of my driving will be 50 mph or less, but I do travel to camp and cruise at 77-78 for a few hours. If I can get in the 20 mpg range I would be happy enough. I appreciate the info.

I get about 14.5 mpg in town, and around 18 on the highway. Not I drive about 80 mph on the highway. 2019 1500 Limited, 5.7 Hemi, 3.92 and 22” stock wheels.

My 2016 Outdoorsman CC stock would get 17 mpg max at 74 mph with 3.92's and the 5.7.

At that speed (77 mph) figure 17 mpg if you are lucky and that is without a head wind.
Throw a decent head wind into the mix and it can plummet to as low as 12-13 mpg.

I think I will be signing papers tomorrow. It's a heck of a lot nicer than my last Dodge. That was a 1982 Power Wagon. Drove that thing hard and put it away wet, but liked that truck.

Those 22 mpg numbers I posted were the EVIC and not hand calculated. I know my 2013 with 3.55's and 6 speed got about 17.5 hand calculated driving back and forth to work, which was about 90% highway cruising at about 70 MPH. I know my step-father never calculated his by hand and the one I had I only had for about 3 days and reset the EVIC when I left for work.

I got 17.5 hand calculated in my new 2018 2500 6.4Hemi and 4.10's on the highway at about 65 MPH average

Tim, I have a 2017 4WD with 3.92 and they cost me 1 mpg over the 3.21 at highway speeds so I’ll be around 19 mpg, but around town at 50 I can easily hit 20-21.

So these MPG and MSRP threads are always kind of interesting as the vast majority of responders leave about half of the needed info off or have only driven about 2,500 miles or live at sea level and drive only flat highways at 50 mpg or have only a 2WD of have 37 inc tires or are speed demons or never use their speed control and surge all the time. So I will try.

5,00 miles. Hemi 5.7, 3.92, 4 wheel drive, air suspension and every option except 22s. In other words the heaviest one out of the factory that they make Including Etorque.

First of all if you live in the west near the mountains at 80 mph everything gets about 16-17 in good weather. Everybody, if you have my config.

From 70 on down it gets interesting as the technology starts to matter. With just slightly hilly terrain and careful monitoring of your MPG dash you can find the sweet spot for your technology and that is where this RAM is real fun. That being said break in does matter and in this setting my mileage just keeps improving right up to about 20 mpg with some cargo.

I hate to say this but I think the online Car shows are wrong about the tonneau covers, they help 1/2 mpg.

My Ford SC 4X4 Ecoboost 3.73 got 7-8 mpg with my enclosed 12' trailer 65- 70 mph and I thought it pulled it pretty easily, but this Hemi is smoother, pulls it better, and gets 11-12.

Often I get the best mileage in stop and go traffic. I can not tell when my engine stops and starts at lights with the Etorque so I fail to understand why people mind sitting at lights with their engine off.

So far that is my two cents....well more like three.

Hand calculated, I get 21.5 hwy on ethanol free gas, and 19-20 hwy on ethanol. I rarely travel above 72 mph and I live in Florida where it is fairly flat.

I'd be interested to know. I have the 3.55 gears, but I'd like to go to the 3.92 I'm told it might improve city mpg, just not sure how much it would affect highway. I'd like to have the added towing capacity, and I figure it's be easier to find a 3.92 rear off of a crashed truck then to go through the hassle of buying gears and trying to find a decent shop to do the work.
