I have a 2005 dodge ram quad cab with the 4.7 I've had it for maybe 2 months and it just threw a rod and broke the piston in half the motor has 236,000ish miles on it from what I can tell(haven't really torn into it yet) only the rod and piston on the driverside rear cylinder and what I believe is the tone wheel appears to be damaged..

So should I replace the 4.7 or rebuild it? What would be the pros and cons of rebuilding vs replacing??

Beware any hairline splits in the bore that are very hard to detect. Ask me how I know.

If you are going to overhaul the 4.7, strip the engine down to the bare block and take it to your machine shop of choice and have them magnaflux the block to check for cracks. Its worth it to spend the money to vat the block and mangaflux it so that way you dont build a motor and have it come apart shortly after.
