I run 5w30 synthetic in my 5.7 and I've had just about every problem with the truck that happens to everyone now. it just hit 160,000. I had 3 bolts break off on the manifolds, it ticks still after the fix, and the change oil message keeps coming on. The oil gauge doesnt read low. I just had the oil serviced. Any help to why the change oil message keeps coming up. Any help with why she ticks. Thank you. 20190503_141945.jpg

While your manifold may be leaking another culprit of the ticking noise could be the notorious hemi tick. Which if I remember correctly is related to the lifters and to my knowledge isn't a problem. My truck has done it since I bought it with 120k miles and it now has 212k miles.

If it's authentic Hemi tick.....just let it be a Hemi.

Is there a reset button for service engine oil ?
You can try disconnecting the battery for 10 minutes or so.....never heard that one.

If you turn the key to the "on" position right before you crank it up. Then push the gas pedal to the floor 3x within 10 seconds it will reset the oil change message.

You may be getting the change oil message because you put 5W-30 in it; 08 1500 has MDS and calls for 5W-20.

I've always put 5w30 in my truck though and it's just now showing the message. I'll change to 5w20 next time see what happens. Thank you

Have you done the reset procedure? As said above turn on ignition, pedal to the floor 3 times then start the truck resets the oil change monitor.

Though that may only matter if your MDS is active. If you have it disabled it shouldn't matter, prior to MDS 5W-30 was the prescribed oil.

I see you have a 4th gen, does that apply to CAN bus 3rd gens (06-08, earlier ones didn't have an oil monitor, just a programmable maintenance reminder if you have the EVIC)?

My 06' was the same procudure even though it didn't have an oil life indicator and my 2011 as well, which didn't have an oil life indicator either.

They had an oil change light come on to tell you to change the oil, but nothing you could check on the dash to tell you how soon before it would come on.
