I'm looking at buying a small gas saver for commute, since my 2 current trucks get less than 20 MPG. Does anyone have any experience with the Dodge Ram 50 or D-50 trucks? I don't see many of them, but I have my eye on one and wanted to stick with Mopar if I can help it. Are they good trucks? Or am I better off getting a Toyota, Nissan, or Mazda truck? Thanks.

It's a Mitsubishi, most old trucks should be about the same on reliability, as long as they have been taken care of. I would just do a good inspection of it. Good luck!

I think the bigger question would be what are you doing with it that you couldn't do with a car? They got a small engine so while may get ok mileage empty if you use it like a truck mileage may take a drop.

It would only be for commute. I have 2 full size Rams I can use for towing and hauling. I just want a gas saver for going to work.

really sounds like you should just buy a car like a civic or corolla if that is the case. at least with a car your more likely to average 30+mpg.

I'd have to agree a car would make a better commuter than a 30 year old compact truck. If your goal is just getting from point A to point B, an old inefficient truck is not ideal unless there's some 'style' factor? Other than that, the mitsu Mighty Max/D50 trucks were fine in mechanical reliability for that era. I think there were a few electrical gremlins. fast forward to 2019, a few more things will likely not be functional. and then theres the issue with any major replacement parts.

I second getting at car. You can get 2012~ Japanese cars that are reliable and get 35+ mpgs for around 4 thousand now. My girlfriend has a 2012 Hyundai accent and it gets 35-40 mpgs all day and last I checked about a little over a year ago kbb said it was only worth about 4 grand.
